John Morgan 1943 — 2021

John Morgan

BA (U of Manitoba) MBA (Queen’s U)

Nov.29,1943- Apr.14, 2021 Kamloops BC

John Frederick Morgan was a force to be reckoned with in the business world. His passion was empowering motivated people long before it was widely acceptable. This brought his career to its height being the President of Labatt Breweries. From Formula 1 cars, fine dining and enjoying downtime watching horses he was always patiently waiting for success on the sidelines. He spent his life traveling, living and working all over the world, growing businesses, sitting on boards, teaching business at SFU and having a family.

He leaves his wife of 50 yrs, Lynne, daughters Jen, Kathryn (Gavin), Heather (Alex) and two grandchildren Ethan and Charlie, his sister Karen (Tim) and brother Wayne (Karen).

John led a full life that made stories. As anyone who has eaten with him knows, his favorite past time was telling these wild tales over a few drinks. We ask that you take a moment to tell a story, and if you don’t have a good one it’s time to make one. Raise a glass and enjoy life as he did, ‘just peachey’.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC, who helped so much through his struggle with the disease.

Lynne–I am so sorry for your loss. John was a really nice guy who I liked from the moment I met him back when we were all students at Queens. I also remember visiting your home in Mississauga back in the early 90’s…I was so impressed with you both as a couple and as parents. I wish you and your family well in navigating through this rough patch. Sincerely, Bob Madden. ’71

I am so sorry to read of John’s passing and of his struggles with Alzheimer’s. My two older brothers, Jim and David, and I grew up in Parkview Hills…we lived at #39 and the Morgans lived at #49. John was a little older than us. My friendship was with Karen and, of course, the parents who kindly allowed us to swim in their backyard pool. Such a fabulous place to grow up. So many good times. Cherish the memories.

So sorry to hear Lynne. My mom and I were sharing stories this morning when you all first met and the great times you had, and then the amazing trips I had as a kid going to Montreal for the F1 races. Shawna and I still talk about our honeymoon road trip west and you and John’s incredible hospitality when we arrived – we felt so welcomed. Thinking of you and your family.

Hi Anne Marie, Yes I do remember and my condolences to you as well. Mike was a character. Cancer is certainly no fun. Those Queens years hold a lot of good memories.

I just found out about John. We were at UofM together, the two of us shared an apartment in our post grad year, kept a bit in touch over the decades via snail mail, then eMail, and Christmas cards. Our careers took much different paths, but we managed to connect periodically over the decades for lunch, or dinner with our spouses. Always gracious, insightful, and inquisitive. Memories are timeless. Lynne and family, my profound condolences. I regret being almost a year after.
