Feb. 17, 1910 – Apr. 7, 2016
Born in Montreal, Stephen grew up in Calgary and Vancouver. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1942 serving in the Artillery as an Instructor with postings in Cardiff Wales, El Paso Texas, Korea and several military posts across Canada.
He retired as a Major from Valcartier, Quebec and he and his wife Iris settled in Sorrento, BC.
He is survived by his two daughters Mary Jean Jacobson (Dale) and Stephanie Chrumka (Paul), seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren and his nephew Thomas Oldfield (Marilyn).
Stephen was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy McDonald (Hugh) and Edith Oldfield (Fred) and his wives Iris Costello, Elsie May Jorgenson and Mildred Battison.
During his long life, Stephen excelled in sports from football to curling. He enjoyed photography, boating on the Shuswap, studying Spanish, gardening and especially travelling by car, freighter or cruise ship. He travelled around the world five times and took his last cruise when he turned 101.
His family wish to thank the incredible staff at Berwick and BRIO for their great care.
A farewell reception in memory of Stephen will be held at a later date.
