DOREEN PEARL KUHN 1930 — 2022

DOREEN PEARL KUHN

Doreen Pearl Kuhn (nee Burton)
March 23, 1930 – January 21, 2022.
Doreen passed away peacefully in
Kamloops BC at the age of 91 years old.

Doreen was born in Swan River Manitoba to Ethel and Allen Burton. The family eventually moved to Dale mead where, she grew up with her six siblings. When she reached eighteen, she moved to Calgary where she held numerous jobs and eventually met her husband Pius. She remained close to her family all of her life. She was predeceased by her parents as well as six siblings, Charles, Betty, Blanche, Stanley, Marlene and Derril.

Doreen married Pius Kuhn in Calgary, Alberta on April 15, 1950. She was predeceased by her husband Pius on June 13, 2014. They had three children Dwain (Darlene), Gaylene (Dale) and Vanda (Darren). They were extremely involved with raising their children and attended and volunteered in their activities. They were blessed with seven grandchildren Alisa, Lindsay, Jennifer, Taylor, Lauren, Kelsey, and Whitney as well as six great grandchildren Jordan, Conner, Laney Jun, Avery, Olive, and our newest addition Presley.

Doreen’s legacy lives in her love of cleaning, cooking, baking, sewing, and knitting. She was an incredibly talented seamstress and she sewed hundreds of pieces for friends and family, including several wedding gowns and bridesmaid’s dresses. The entire family benefited from her sewing expertise at some point. Pius was German and even though Doreen was not she learned to cook wonderful German food including cabbage rolls, perogy’s, sauerkraut noodles and beautiful homemade buns. Her and dad prepared and served hundreds of meals to family and friends over the years. Doreen worked extremely hard all her life not always with modern conveniences. She taught her three children the value of hard work and that has stuck with us throughout own lives.

Doreen was always in love with babies and adored her grandchildren. They all had a special place in her heart, and she was incredibly involved in their lives. Fortunately, she lived long enough to attend their graduations and weddings as well as meeting their babies.

Sorry for your loss. I have the sauerkraut noodle recipe from her and think of her each time I make it. I loved all the fondues and crazy dinners we had at the house and the birthday parties in the backyard. May the happy memories soon outweigh the sad ones. Big hugs to all from us, Michelle, John, Thomas and Julianna.
