BRENDAN JAMES COLE 1939 — 2026

BRENDAN JAMES COLE

Brendan James Cole, most recently of Kamloops, British Columbia, passed away in the early morning of March 19, 2026, after a lengthy illness, two weeks short of his 87th birthday.

Born in April 1939, Brendan was the son of the late Thomas and Rena (Northrup) Cole. He is survived by wife, Phyllis, daughters Phyllis Banister (Sp. Ken, sons Stephen (Maria), Michael (Amanda) and Daniel (Leah)), Christina Kerr (ch. Val Sherley (Steven) and David Kerr (Karin)), and Lorne (sp Val Cole, ch. Santana Beaudry, Nalanie, Levi and Devlen (Victoria)). He was known affectionately as “Grumpy” among his grandchildren and the 10 great grandchildren of whom he frequently bragged (Isaiah, Angela, Colin, Austin, Rose, Lucas, Maddie, Ben, Samantha and Violet). He is also survived by baby brother Gary Cole of Gagetown and Ottawa and the large Cole clan rooted in New Brunswick.

Brendan’s adventures began at an early age when he made his way from his birth place in St.John, NB to Toronto before he hit his teens. He landed in Montreal, PQ, eventually, where he enlisted in the Soldier Apprenticeship program in Montreal, graduating in 1957. While there, he met the love of his life, Phyllis Kavanagh, with whom he had an impressive 68 years of marriage.

Brendan lived a large life that included an illustrious military career. He began as an ordnance specialist which took him across Canada, from New Brunswick to British Columbia, and to several overseas locations as part of the United Nations peacekeeping personnel. He was in Egypt and Gaza in the early 1960’s. He was sent to the Montreal area to assist in the domestic theatre during the final days of the FLQ crisis. Brendan shipped to Cyprus during the Turkish-Greek Cypriot skirmishes, went to Norway for the UN exercises and was called in as a consultant for the Gulf War. He spent 3+ years in Lahr, Germany in the mid to late 1970s.

Known for his integrity and diligence, he was one of the very rare soldiers who was able to work his way through the ranks to Captain. He was also rumoured to be the worst driver ever to run a military motor pool.

Brendan retired from the military in 1980 and moved to Calgary, where he worked in the materials and supply department in the oil and gas industry, then moved to a similar position in hospital administration. By 1989, he was ready to retire.

He and Phyllis settled in Anglemont, BC, purchasing a house on the 8th green of the golf course that offered a world class lake view of the Shuswap. They spent their winters in the warm climes of Clearwater, Florida, and from there, began their world-wide travels, becoming itinerant ocean and river cruisers. Although his sense of direction was severely limited and he was well known for his delicate tummy, they circumvented the globe and managed to visit every continent at least once. Their last cruise in 2024 took them around the continent of South America and to Antarctica to finish the set.

Through the years, Brendan spent his leisure time volunteering as a Scout leader and Big Brother. He enjoyed playing broomball in the days when the game was played on outdoor rinks, and softball with no glove. He was a founding member and actor with the North Shuswap Players, and volunteered for the local blues fest. He also fostered a series of Oliver Shaughnessy III’s (Ollie), as he named all his dogs over the years.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Royal Inland Hospital and Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops for their dedication and exceptional care.

There will be no visitation or funeral. A private family celebration of life will be planned for a future date.

BELLA CATHERINE BUGERA 1942 — 2026

BELLA CATHERINE BUGERA

On March 16th, at the age of 83, we lost our Baba, mother, sister and friend, Bella (Vasylyna) Catherine Bugera.

Bella was born on September 29th, 1942 to parents Bill and Katherine Pawlyshyn, in Edam Saskatchewan. Growing up in Saskatchewan, she lived and worked on her family’s farm with her two brothers, Morris and Bob (Laurie) and her sister Sylvia. In 1957 she moved to Kamloops where she met her first husband, Percy and had 3 sons, Myroslaw (deceased), Anthony (deceased)(Trish) and Wayne (Cari). Her sons gave Bella her most cherished gift, becoming a Baba to her four grandchildren, Stephanie (Stephen), Chantelle (Micheal)(Wayne and Sandi) and Vladimyr (Bekka) and Laris (Anthony and Trish.)

In the early 1990’s, Bella met the love of her life, George Andriashyk. With this she gained two more sons, Brian (Kathie) and Doug (Edna) and five more precious grandchildren, Karri, Stacie and Hollie (Brian) and Jamie and Bobbie (Doug.) The best and happiest years of Bellas life were spent fishing and spending time with George at the SunnyShore fishing resort on White Lake. It was there that they had a permanent summer campsite where they loved and enjoyed their time camping and fishing with family and friends and showing off their grandchildren when they would visit on summer holidays. In her later years, Bella was thrilled that her ever-growing family gave her her precious great grandchildren, Owen and Ellie (Chantelle and Micheal) and her loving grandogs, Roscoe (Chantelle) and Winston (Stephanie) who all got happy just hearing the word “Baba” mentioned.

Since Bella’s Orthodox faith was such an important part of her life, when she wasn’t spending time with her family, working out in her yard, watching Wheel of Fortune or Global News she was working as a dedicated member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Women’s Association. Bella always took amazing care of her family and friends and had a way of making everyone feel loved and welcome. She was always happiest anytime family was around. We will forever cherish and miss all of her big, elaborate family dinners where she would somehow manage to fit up to forty people in her small house and cook around twenty different dishes, all in a tiny, hot kitchen that only she could fit in.

The world lost a certain brightness the day that we lost our precious Baba, but we can live on knowing that she gave us all the strength and beautiful memories we need to carry her with us for the rest of our lives. May she rest in peace.

Prayers will be held on Sunday, March 29 at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service on Monday, March 30 at 10:30 a.m., both at Ukrainian Orthodox Church of All Saints, officiated by Father Chad Pawlyshyn. PAUL BOWMAN 1964 — 2026

PAUL BOWMAN

May 19, 1964 – February 13, 2026

It is with incredible grief and sadness I announce the sudden passing of my father, Paul Bowman.

Paul was born in St. Asaph, Wales, on May 19, 1964. At the age of 5, Paul and his family immigrated to Canada. The family travelled across the country to live in BC where Paul graduated high school in Nanaimo. After graduation Paul moved to the interior where he started work in the Logging industry operating a Grapple Skidder for many years and then hauling logs. He changed industries in 2007 after being hired by Highland Valley Copper Mine in Logan Lake where he worked for 18 years as a haul truck driver and a driller.

Paul loved being outdoors; playing slow pitch in the Merritt beer league, camping, fishing and exploring the back trails. Sundays were for sports. He could always be found in his recliner on these days talking to the TV, telling it how the games should be played. Paul loved travelling to warmer destinations with his wonderful girlfriend Leah and came to enjoy the cruising life visiting different ports of call and enjoying the beaches along the way.

Paul was predeceased by his stepfather Ron Parkinson. He leaves behind his daughter Michelle (Dustin), mother Rita Parkinson, father Trevor Bowman, stepmother Linda Bowman, brother Gary Bowman, sister Caroline (Bob) Hammond, grandson Logan Hughes and his girlfriend Leah.

I would like to give special thanks from the bottom of my heart to Randy for always being there for my dad. You were, and always will be his best friend. We love ya bud.

Paul wanted to leave quietly and requested that there be no funeral service.

JAMES (JIM) LENNIE DAVIES 1952 — 2026

JAMES (JIM) LENNIE DAVIES

It is with deep sadness that the family of Jim Davies announces his passing on Friday, March 6, 2026.

Born and raised in Trail, BC, Jim was the son of Austin and Hilda Davies and grew up alongside his siblings Shirley, Ken, and Marion. Trail was more than a hometown to Jim. It was part of who he was, and the values he carried through life reflected the close-knit, hardworking community that shaped him.

After completing his studies at Selkirk College, Jim built a long and proud career with BC Tel/Telus, working a variety of roles over 35 years and serving as an active and committed union member. He believed in honest work, in loyalty to the people beside him, and in the dignity that comes from a job done right.

Outside of work, Jim was most alive when there was an engine involved. His love of motorcycles was lifelong and legendary, and his hot rod was a labour of love that brought him enormous pride. He had a gift for mechanical things, a patience and intuition that few people possess, and he was never happier than when he was building, fixing, or tinkering. When he wasn’t in the garage, you’d find him on the ski slopes in winter or out on the water at Heffley Lake in summer, usually with family close by.

But what those who loved Jim will remember most is simple – Jim showed up. When a neighbour needed a hand, when a family member needed support, when his community needed a volunteer, Jim was there, without fanfare and without hesitation. He was the kind of man who made the people around him feel looked after, and that quiet reliability was perhaps his greatest gift.

If Jim had a softer side, it was most visible with his grandchildren. Mason, Ainsley, Audrey, and Sophie had a way of bringing out a warmth and patience in him that those who only knew his tougher exterior might not have expected. Whether he was sharing a love of the outdoors, sneaking them into the garage for a look at whatever he was working on, or simply being the steady, reassuring presence that good grandparents are, Jim cherished every moment with them. They were, without question, among the great joys of his life.

Jim is lovingly survived by his wife and partner of many years, Diane and her extended family; his daughter Alison Coggins, her husband Dwight, and their children Mason and Ainsley; and his son Trevor Davies, his wife Kathryn, and their children Audrey and Sophie. He was predeceased by his parents Austin and Hilda, and is survived by his siblings Shirley, Ken, and Marion and extended families. We extend our deepest sympathy to all family members and friends devastated by the loss.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 23rd from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Heffley Lake Community Hall. All who knew Jim are welcome.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Jim’s memory to the Heffley Area Community Wildfire Response Team, a cause close to his heart, via e-transfer to: heffleylakecommunityassociation@outlook.com

Jim Davies loved his family, his community, and the open road. He will be profoundly missed by all who were lucky to know him.
