CLARENCE JOSEPH HANGHOFER

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Clarence Joseph Hanghofer of Kamloops who passed away at his home on Monday April 6, 2026 at the age of 87.

Clarence was born in Canwood Saskatchewan, February 17, 1939 to parents Joseph and Marie Hanghofer, shortly after his birth the family moved to Osoyoos, BC. Clarence was raised on a fruit orchard and developed a passion for the care and pruning of various types of trees and was well known for his fruit picking abilities. Clarence graduated from Oliver Secondary School in 1957, joined the army from 1961 to 1963. Clarence married Judith (Judy) Anne Reitmeier November 22, 1963 then bought and lived on an orchard. They started a family with the birth of first son Bryan in 1966 and second son Douglas in 1968. The family then moved from Osoyoos with short stints in Nanaimo, Smithers and settling in Kamloops in 1970 where third son Daryl arrived in 1971. Clarence started work at Weyerhaeuser Pulp mill in 1970 and later retired after 29 years in 1999. He continued his passion for fruit trees by pruning for many local customers from single trees to full orchards. Clarence was a long time member of the Kamloops Station 4 Volunteer fire dept. Clarence was involved with everything outdoors, an avid hunter, fisherman and spent much time camping with family and friends. Clarence was so proud of his family and could always be found on the sidelines of ball fields, soccer fields or hockey rinks watching, cheering and supporting his kids and grandchildren every chance he had, when he wasn’t spending time with family you would find him in his Wood shop building, crafting or carving.

Clarence was predeceased by his Mother Marie in 1996 and Father Joe in 1997, along with many Aunts and Uncles in Saskatchewan and Austria.

Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Judy, his brother Laverne of Montreal, sons Bryan (Bernadette), Douglas (Tracey), and Daryl, grandsons Brandon, Tyler, Zach, Jase, Cole and Ryly, granddaughters Lyndsay and Shaye along with 6 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter all of Kamloops, nephew Dennis in Winnipeg and niece Nicky (Nick) in Clearwater Beach, Florida.

A Service will be held to honour the life of Clarence at 11am on Friday, May 8th, 2026 in the Saint John Vianney Catholic Church, 2826 Bank Road, Kamloops with a Celebration of Life and luncheon to follow.
