It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Colleen Joan Sommerfeldt Neé Wilcox. Colleen passed peacefully in Kamloops, BC, on June 7, 2026, with her children by her side.
Colleen was born in Vancouver, BC on December 14, 1953, daughter of the late Frances Mildred Wallin and George William Wilcox. Colleen was the youngest of 4 children and was raised by her mother Frances and Frederick McClean in and around the Lower Mainland.
Colleen was a proud and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She found joy in caring for those she loved, whether through baking their favourite goodies and breads to having all the family gather round on New Year’s Eve. She enjoyed spending many hours laughing and enjoying her husband’s company, visiting with her friends, playing cards, drinking tea, and listening to her children tell her about their day. Among her favourite things were cheering on the Vancouver Canucks and listening to her record collection.
Colleen is predeceased by her husband Bruce Sommerfeldt; her parents; her brothers Ray and Allan; her sister Carol; and her youngest son, Colin Barrett.
She leaves behind her many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with numerous family and friends who will miss her greatly.
Colleen touched the lives of many who had the honor of knowing her. Her selflessness, warmth and generous spirit will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and compassion that will live on through her family and all whose lives she touched.
Forever loved, forever remembered.
We welcome friends and family to join us for a Celebration of Life, Sunday, June 21st, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in the Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive.
