Gerald Norman Gascon July 21, 1936 – Sept 16, 2015

Our hearts are filled with sorrow as we say goodbye to our loved one.

Gerry was born in Westlock, AB and raised on the family farm in Manola, AB. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Arlene Gascon; Children Gordon Gascon; Linda (Dave) Maartman; Allen Gascon; Donna Gascon; Grandchildren Tana (Colton) Hunt; Jerrid (Kelsey) Robinson; Taylor Robinson (Kylie Tilbury); Rochelle Gascon; Janel Maartman; Bryce Maartman. Great-Grand Children Adria Hunt; Ezra Robinson.

Brother Ken (Ella) Gascon; Sisters Edna (John) McCauley; Rachel (Ray) Fontaine.

Gerry was predeceased by his grandson Jesse Gordon Gerald Gascon (1994), his parents Edward & Gladys Gascon. Siblings John, Peter, Gladys, Gilbert & Raymond.

Gerry’s first job was in the bush, limbing trees in Fort Assiniboine at the early age of 16. He then worked for Northern Alberta Railways on the Bridge Gang fixing bridges throughout Northern Alberta. He started the Plumbing Trade in Edmonton when he was 18 years old.

While in Edmonton he met Arlene Lois Mitton; it was love at first sight. Gerry and Arlene were married July 9th, 1960, and moved Lac La Biche. Gerry opened his own Plumbing business, known as Gerry’s Plumbing & Heating.

10 years and 4 kids later, Gerry and Arlene left Lac La Biche, making the move to Sherwood Park in 1970. Gerry worked for Alberta Government and Parks for a year and then went to work with Gordy’s Plumbing & Heating at which time they moved to Edmonton. Then a decision was made, and in February 1973 they packed up the family and headed to Kamloops, BC, once in Kamloops he was employed with A&M Plumbing. In 1976 he started his own company Gascon Plumbing & Heating which he operated until 1981. At that point Gerry was employed with the BC Building Corporation as an Operation Supervisor of Kamloops and District and retired from this position in 1996.

Gerry, being the go-getter he was, found it difficult to stay retired so he started a one-man Plumbing business out of their home called A&G Enterprises, which kept him extremely busy until his health issues forced him to close the doors in 2009.

While in the nursing homes he kept his humorous demeanour, constantly joking and pulling pranks with the staff, and always keeping his family on their toes wondering what was coming next!

Over the year’s Gerry met many people who soon became his good friends; he was just that kind of man! Family values were important to him and no matter what the circumstances, his wife and children were always well cared for. He provided the family with many fun-packed summers at the lake, horseback riding, snowmobiling, boating and many family road trips. Gerry and Arlene enjoyed extensive traveling throughout parts of BC, AB and the States; there was always another great Casino just around the corner! Gerry was well loved and equally as loving to those close to him.

The family would like to send heartfelt Thank You’s to Gerry’s closest friends, Dean Dobell, Darlene Spychka and Marilyn Siegrest. We Thank the wonderful staff at Kamloops Royal Inland Hospital and Dr. Wynne; as well as endlessly diligent and loving staff at the Pine Grove and Gemstone Nursing homes. In kindness we extend our hearts to all those who supported Gerry.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kamloops Royal Inland Hospital.

Reverend Ray Parker will be officiating a private graveside Service with family and close friends.

Sincere condolences to you and your family, Arlene. I remember some very special occasions that we (Ed Giesz and I), shared with you and Gerry. How quickly the years pass, and how cherished are the memories.
I’m glad that you have the support of your family at this difficult time.

    Warm regards, Maureen M.
