Ben Wortelboer of Kamloops passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 93 years of age. He is survived by his daughter Karen Selma of Red Lake, BC, son Rudy (Michelle) of Lillooet, BC, grandchildren Erica Wortelboer and Ryan (Lisa) Wortelboer, and great grandchildren Addy, Seth and Luccia. Ben was predeceased by his wife Lucia, sisters Marietje and Mini, and brothers Rudolf, Sjef, Edo and Gerard.

He was born on September 1, 1926 in Ootmarsum, Holland. Ben and his future wife Lucy grew up in Ootmarsum during WWII. He received the Croix de Guerre from Charles de Gaulle for his efforts in aiding Allied soldiers during the war. Ben and Lucy were married on April 7, 1953 and immigrated to Canada a week later. They settled in New Westminster, where Selma and Rudy were born. He worked at a sawmill and as a custodian for the New Westminster School Board until he retired in 1977. Ben moved to his property at Red Lake and built a home. After Lucy died in 1995, he moved to Kamloops, where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Kamloops Hospice. If friends so desire, donations in Ben’s memory may be made to Hospice. A Celebration of Ben’s life will be held at a later date.

Clayton Moore of Kamloops passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at 40 years of age. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Moore, children Madison Moore, Nikayla Richter, Aiden Lafond, Bentlee Lafond and CJ Lafond, siblings Sean, Dillion, Dino, Kerian, Dale, Cindy and their spouses and children. He was predeceased by his Mom, Nancy Moore and Dad, Joe Thompson.

Clayton will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Twila Sharon Unrau was born October 2, 1951 in Princeton, B.C. and passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at her home in Kamloops, with her family by her side.

Twila was the second child to Joe and Helen Beer. With her Dad’s work, the family moved many times, to Lake Cowichan, Brittania Beach, and eventually, North Vancouver.

It is with great sadness that we announce Twila’s passing. She loved nature, swimming, gardening, arts and crafts, and had a strong will for life, and for family and friends. Twila had a special bond with her nephews and nieces, and our godson.

Twila was diagnosed with stage four Thyroid cancer in 2010. The past years were difficult for her, with the discomfort and pain. I’m certain her strong will and determination helped her through this difficult time. Twila’s belief in Spiritualism helped her to cross the rainbow bridge and be painless.

She is lovingly remembered by husband Ernie, daughter Cindy and grandson Milo, son James (Anna), our godson Michael, her brothers and sister, numerous nephews and nieces and friends.

She is greatly missed by all.

A special thank you to Carol and all the palliative care nurse that provided needed care to Twila at this time.

Thomas Albert Broad of Kamloops, BC passed on July 21, 2020 at the age of 84. He is survived by his loving wife Glady Ann Broad and his children James (spouse Patricia) Broad, Peggy-Jo Broad, and Thomas (spouse Candace) Broad. He will be greatly missed by his grand children Carrie-Lynn Davies, Michael Davies, Lyrae Broad, Zan Broad, Jacqueline Broad, Karlie Broad, and Kassandra Broad. Thomas was also dearly loved by his many great grand children Brodie Campbell, Kacia Campbell, Mathew Hall, Isobel Hall, Ava Alcock, Lexi Alcock, Nyah Alcock, Tayven Alcock, and Addilyne Broad. Thomas was pre-deceased by his daughter Kathy-Jo Davies and his brother John Broad.

Tom was born in Toronto Ontario in 1934 and was raised in the town of Dunnville Ontario.  In 1971 he made the bold move to start his career as a millwright in Port Alice, BC.  He was always a hard working man who helped others and while living on Vancouver Island he volunteered as a fireman and began his involvement with the PPWC. After leaving Port Alice the family moved to Robert’s Creek on the Sunshine Coast. After a short time on the Sunshine Coast Tom moved to Kamloops in 1976.  He began working at the local Weyerhaeuser pulp mill where he worked until his retirement.

Tom enjoyed many hobbies such as building and fixing items in his shop, hunting, fishing, and growing his prized tomatoes. Whenever anyone popped by one of the first things he would often say was “so, what’s happenin’ in the world today?”, he could never start his day without checking the weather channel, and Monday coffee days with the “old boys” was his favorite day of the week. He had many nick names like “Mr. Hose” since he always had a garden hose in his hands, “Mr. Level and Square” because everything had to be built and arranged just so, and of course when he was shooting he was known as “Homer Hipshot” seeing as all of his grand kids and great grand kids knew him as Poppa Homer. He was greatly loved by many people in this world and he was truly a character that will be sorely missed by all.

A Graveside service will be held for family and extended family at 11 am on Thursday July 30^th at Hillside Cemetery with Steven Hare officiating.  A small drop-in gathering will be held for friends and family after the service at 1:30 pm at 227 Walnut Ave. and memorial donations may be made to any of the following: Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lung Association, or the Kidney Foundation.

Thank-you on behalf of the entire family to everyone that was a part of Tom’s health care team that tried to make his time here as comfortable as possible.

It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret “Peggy” Louise Tessier, regrets to announce her passing on Friday, April 10, 2020 at the age of 81 years.

Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, Maurice and their children Louise (Terry), Henry (Rae), Kenny (Cheryl), Annette (predeceased) (Tim), and eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Margaret was a fun loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to raising her family. She came from a large family and is survived by two brothers, Lee and Les, and her sister Dorothy. She is predeceased by her parents Walter and Margaret.
