It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Virginia DeVries at the age of 92, in Kamloops, BC.

Virginia was the oldest of five siblings and was born in Nanaimo, BC. After completing school she became a telephone operator and worked as a receptionist. She met Gordon and they married in Penticton in 1953. They moved to Beaverdell, then to Burnaby, and finally to Kamloops in 1962 where Virginia lived until her passing.

Virginia will be remembered as a resilient, strong, witty, and fun-loving woman who touched the hearts of many with her timeless soul and charming character. Everyone who knew her loved her for her kind and giving nature and for her incredible sense of humour.Read More & Leave Condolences »

Cyril Makortoff

March 22, 1931 – July 28, 2017

Cyril Makortoff of Kamloops passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 86 years of age. He is survived by his former spouse, Violet Makortoff of Edmonton, AB, children, Lubby Makortoff of Kamloops, Nina Makortoff of Edmonton, Lloyd Makortoff of Edmonton, Duane Makortoff of Edmonton, and Larissa Makortoff of Vancouver; grandchildren, Jody, Darren, Justin, Carrie-Lynn, Jessica, Lacey and Arman; great grandchildren, Ben, Abby, Bently, Khiya, Bradley, Peyton, Michael, Destiny, Serene, and Ice -Lynn siblings Alex, Fred , George, Phillip and Marie; numerous nieces, nephews, as well as neighbours Jaswinder Singh Shekhon.

He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Mary, and sons Gordon and David, and also long time love and companion Irene Peters.

Cyril worked as a miner, logger, and as an iron worker, Local 97 Union Hall. He was an avid fisherman and a member of the Alano Club. Cyril and his partner, Irene, travelled the States before settling on the Baja, where they built a beautiful home and resort. Cyril was a devoted Blue Jays fan and will be missed by his game companion, Biscuit.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the RIH Emergency Room staff and to the staff at Hospice.

The Celebration of Cyril’s life will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 12, 2017 in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel, 285 Fortune Dr., with Pastor Zacharie Jean officiating.

Donations in Cryril’s memory maybe made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Kamloops Hospice.

It is with great sadness that the family of Audrey Karpoff announce her sudden passing on Friday, July 21, 2017 with her family by her side. Audrey showed courage and determination in her short battle with cancer, and continued to be concerned about the wellbeing of those around her to her last day.

In her 10 years in Kamloops, Audrey made numerous friends in every corner of the City; from the Kamloops Newcomers group, her weekly Mahjong games, visits to the Opera, several book clubs, attending the gym and determination to join the therapy dog program (despite being afraid of dogs).

She kept in regular contact with friends from her previous homes in White Rock, Ste. Adele, Senneville, Toronto, Vancouver and Abbotsford; always ready for a road-trip to visit or have a delicious meal together.Read More & Leave Condolences »

It is with heavy hearts we regretfully announce the tragic passing of Jorden Paul Stanley on July 15^th, 2017. He is survived by his loving parents; Paul Stanley (Jackie), Shelley Stanley (Dan), sister Ashley Stanley (Greg Nygren), loving grandparents; Mavis and Ken Olm, David and Sybil Stanley and Daniel Jones (Edie) along with numerous family and friends.

Our son Jorden was born July 8, 1994 in Kamloops, BC. He attended Dallas Elementary school and graduated from Valleyview Secondary School and proudly achieved his Red Seal Certification as an Electrician at such a young age with determination and dedication, making his family proud.Read More & Leave Condolences »

Wayne McMurchy  April 15, 1943 to July 13, 2017

Wayne passed away in peace, comfort and dignity, surrounded by friends and his wife Wanda who never left his side.

He was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan to Elmer and Connie McMurchy. They moved to Saskatoon after the war ended. He attended Wilson Public School and City Park Collegiate.

He was in Air Cadets and the Air Reserve and spoke often of the great experiences they afforded.

After High School he worked for some months at the construction of the Gardiner Dam, which just celebrated its 50^th anniversary.

He then started working in the Plumbing and Heating Wholesale industry where he had several jobs, culminating as a Purchasing Agent.

In 1966 he met and married Wanda Ferkingstad, the love of his life, and also gained the love and respect of her family.

He continued in the P&H business, in 1971 in Calgary and in 1973 in Prince George. 1977 brought them to Kamloops, working as senior purchasing agent for Westburne.

In 1985 he, along with his business partner Mark Anderson, opened the Powder Keg Shooters Supply. He loved the outdoors, any of the shooting sports, was an avid hunter and sometime fisherman, so it was a natural fit. He enjoyed his years there.Read More & Leave Condolences »
