Penny Jones 1954 — 2014

Penny Jones

Surrounded by close family, and supportive staff, Penny Jones passed away peacefully on Feb. 22nd at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home in Kamloops, B.C.

Penny was born and raised in Coquitlam, B.C., and was the eldest of four children. At age 19 she met her husband-to-be, Rob, and they were married in 1975. They bought their first home in Maple Ridge, and moved to Abbotsford after the birth of their 2nd child. Together, they raised four children.

Penny was an incredibly gifted and creative mother and was always busy sewing clothes, crafting and baking. Her home was never without a festive atmosphere at holidays, and she loved to host. Large family gatherings at Christmas, neighbourhood get-togethers at Halloween and summer parties were a-plenty.

With a passion for entrepreneurialism, Penny turned her attention to running her own businesses once her kids were all in school. She ran a small butcher business; Penny’s Mini-Deli at the Abbotsford Flea Market from 1986-1993 and later reopened a brick-and-mortar coffee shop of the same name, on S. Fraser Way. She also had a successful wedding planning business; Ladybug Creations, and was actively involved in all aspects, from flower arranging and décor, to tent rentals and catering. Possibly her proudest accomplishments were her two daughters’ beautiful outdoor garden weddings.

In 2008, seeking a quieter lifestyle, Penny and Rob moved to Kamloops to be closer to their children and their 10 grandchildren.

Penny was an adoring and cherished grandmother, who is dearly missed by Russell, Tishan, Hannah, Elizabeth, Chelsea, Mattias, Owen, Ashley, Brody and Bentley.

She is survived by her husband; Robert, her children; Jennifer (Nicolas), Brianna (James), Talisa (Ryan) and Michael (Chantel), her father; Albert and her siblings; Sandra and Dale.

A small graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery (https://goo.gl/maps/CjJDK) at 3pm on May 9th, followed by a Celebration of Penny’s Life at Barnhartvale Community Centre (https://goo.gl/maps/n967n). Refreshments will be served.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home or Lung Cancer Canada.

    Hi Mom,
Today marks 2 months since you passed away. My heart feels broken. It’s been a rough road, but every day (and even with the rain today), I manage to find at least a moment where I cherish a fond memory of you, and I smile. Spring showers bring May flowers, right? I love you and miss you.
