Sonja (Curly) Susan Roy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister and Dear friend, Mrs. Sonja Curly Roy whom passed away on Saturday February 22nd at Royal Inland with her loving family by her side. She is survived by son Robert (Kathy) Allaire of Kamloops, Grandson Brock (Tammy) Allaire of Calgary, Great Grandchildren Brayden and Isabella Allaire of Calgary, and  Tye and Dougy of Ontario. She was predeceased by her Loving husband Arman Roy in 1986, and Son Herbert Allaire in 2015. The things she enjoyed the most in life was her family, friends, knitting, her Church and her walks around Barriere. Curly loved to collect bottles for the Barriere food bank until she was not able to, as well she knitted numerous afghans for whomever needed one, newborn babies and donations for numerous fundraising raffle’s. Most of all she enjoyed those holiday dinners with family and friends that meant so very much to her. The family would also like to express sincere gratitude to the Doctors and staff at Royal Inland Hospital. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Our dear Curly. Curly Roy was the first person I met when we moved to Louis Creek. She was a care-giver to the owner of the property we rented. We arrived late one night during school spring break, arriving from Vancouver Island with a horse and most all our belongings in the back of a one-ton truck and horse trailer. The next morning Curly at the owners big Edwardian style house cooking breakfast for the owner that was located below our place. She invited us down to the house for breakfast Curly had a scarf wrapped around her head as she chatted and welcomed us to the area. She reminded me of Aunt Jemima with the scarf and coincidentally she cooked us pancakes and eggs. I was only in grade 6, but I grew to love our Curly and she was a wonderful friend in our social circle and a great gift to the world. We shared pearl parties and her ‘home-grown’ raffles she held for her crochet, knitting and embroidery projects. As I grew up, things got busy and I only seen Curly on and off in Barriere until possibly 2008 or maybe 2009, and suddenly she was gone. I had no idea where my friend moved to and it was sad to hear she moved to Kamloops and I had no forwarding information on her. Her Christmas cards stopped arriving and I had lost her whereabouts. I hope she knew we loved her.
