Pops my father-in-law for over 40 years. There has never been a better, kinder, gentler man than this. Vito always greeted me with a smile and a hug. When I was pregnant with his grandchildren he would tell his wife to be sure to feed me well. Of course she never needed to be told. Italian women are always forth coming with what is serving to others need.
If I hadn’t seen the garden in 24 hours he would say, “come, look at my –” If we hadn’t had time to play bocce within three days of arrival an appointment was made for now. It was important for his grandchildren to learn the game of bocce. We all understood his winning the game was his way of saying he’s the best.
One thing I really appreciated is when he came to visit our home he never smoked inside the house. He taught respect through being respectful. Whenever we travelled together ever creek, river and lake was a fishing opportunity. When we went past the water without stopping we were informed we had just left the best fish behind.
Vito had a wonderful singing voice and loved to sing with others. He had a good ear for music and if someone had trouble staying on key he would quit singing himself because it hurt his ears. He said.
Pop’s was an honest man, his word was as good as gold.A handshake was as good as a signed paper. He worked hard all the time, never shirking his responsibility. Taking pride in all he did. He was always willing to lend a hand and help his children and grandchildren. All his grandchildren loved him and he loved them.
When he was with his friends often he would become loud and animated. His stories were always fun to listen to. He had many great stories about his life, and funny stories about other people. He was a people watcher and often would judge their character. This person is honest, a hard worker,a great fisherman, or be careful of this person. He would say if someone builds a fence it is because of having something to hide.
I loved you and in spirit may you always find love. There are only two things one is being loved the other is loving. Thank you
