It is with great sadness that we say farewell to Campbell “Barrie” LeBlond. Barrie was a strong and proud man who took great pride and joy in his family. Barrie passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026.
He was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Rose, his father, Campbell Maynard LeBlond, his mother Myrtle LeBlond, and his sister Sue LeBlond. Barrie’s passing followed only weeks after that of his wife, Rose, signifying their eternal bond.
Barrie’s memory is carried fondly by his sister Gayle Svenson (John), by his children, Jason (Alane), and Christina, and his grandchildren, Jacob, Matteus, Kaylee and Declan, and many other family members, as well as close friends gained from his career in construction and project management, and his many keen interests and affiliations.
Barrie was born in Vernon B.C., and raised by his loving parents, Campbell “Cam” LeBlond and Myrtle LeBlond, and his grandmother Gigi. Growing up, Barrie was an avid sports enthusiast and excelled at all he engaged in, including hockey, golf, skiing, gymnastics, hunting and fishing, curling, and diving. Barrie’s dad, Cam, was a photographer and had a photography studio (LeBlond Studios). Barrie spent time helping with photography and processing and developing the photos. Barrie also loved to play guitar and sing, and he and a few friends formed a band. He loved playing with the amplifier turned up in the living room of the house. Barrie also spent a year in the cadet core at the Vernon Army Cadet Camp where he made many long-lasting friendships.
Barrie graduated high school at Vernon Senior High School and then pursued further education at Simon Fraser University in the field of Engineering. Barrie had a long and successful career working for the Provincial Government for the Ministry of Transportation and Highways. Starting from humble beginnings, he worked his way up from lab testing, to project supervision, and eventually to management of major projects in road and bridge construction, including phases one through three of the construction of the Coquihalla Highway. After retiring from his career with the government, Barrie went on to operate an independent consulting firm and lent his expertise to many significant projects including the William R. Bennett bridge in Kelowna, which opened in
2008.
Although he was dedicated to his career, Barrie maintained his focus on his home and his family. Barrie relished opportunities to have fun and spend quality time with his children, Jason and Christina. These included making an ice-rink in the backyard for skating and hockey, building snow forts, taking the kids skiing and sledding, teaching them to dive and “tuck and roll” in gymnastics, and to enjoy outdoor sports such as hiking and mountain biking, and of course golf. Barrie supported Christina through her high school and higher education, and subsequent career in Social Work. He supported his son, Jason, through a lengthy education leading to a degree in Law and a career as a defence lawyer. Barrie was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren, and keenly enthusiastic about all their endeavours.
Barrie was dedicated to his loving wife, Rose. Rose and Barrie were married for 57 wonderful years, and celebrated their retirement by travelling throughout the world including trips to Hawaii, Continental Europe, Great Britain, Morocco, California, Mexico, and Nova Scotia. When they were at home, he and Rose participated in many community organizations and events, Barrie as a Free Mason and Shriner, and Rose as a Daughter of the Nile. Barrie also contributed by driving the Cancer Bus to Kelowna for many years. And when they were not doing their civic duties, both enjoyed entertaining guests, gardening, and spending precious time with their grandchildren and also their pets. In fact there was a long line of beloved cats that Barrie engaged in games and
gymnastics, while they” helped” him with his putting game at home.
An all-around athlete, Barrie found his passion in golf. He worked tirelessly to perfect his game, making many lasting friendships along the way. Barrie served as the President of the Kamloops Golf and Country Club, applying his management skills to help his fellow golfers. Barrie was also an accomplished gymnast, skier, mountain biker, and curler.
Every sport or hobby that Barrie engaged in was undertaken with complete commitment and gusto. It will be his mischievous nature, his wittiness and sense of humour, his energy, his intensity of focus, and his enthusiasm for life for which Barrie will be most remembered.
The family would like to extend their utmost appreciation and a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Gemstone Care Centre for providing such kind and thorough care for Barrie during his time of need.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Delta Marriott Hotel, Terrace Room, 540 Victoria Street, Kamloops, B.C.
