Eva Mayrhofer (Befurt) passed away on May 18, 2017. Eva was born May 26, 1922, in the German settlement of Königsfeld, Yugoslavia. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1931 and thereafter called Kamloops their home. Eva was a hard worker and her first job was at the tomato cannery beside her mother at the age of fourteen. She later worked at the Tranquille TB Sanatorium and had many stories of that time.
In 1943, she married the love of her life, Joe Mayrhofer and soon after they bought property on Tranquille Rd and opened North Kamloops Electric. While Joe was busy with electrical contracting, Eva looked after the shop, as well as the house, the kids, and the garden in the back. They worked hard to build the business and later on, enjoyed their success. They travelled throughout Europe, the US, and Mexico. They loved Hawaii and spent many happy times there with good friends from Kamloops and others they met on their trips there. After she lost Joe in 1990, Eva continued to spend time in Hawaii each year until she was no longer able to travel.
Eva was an avid gardener and especially loved flowers. She enjoyed starting her own plants from cuttings, leaves, or seeds she collected everywhere she went. She was also an exceptional cook and will be remembered for her strudel and schnitzel and knödel of all kinds.
In addition to her husband Joe, Eva was predeceased by her sister Christine Erlandson. She is survived by her brother Jake Befurt and his wife Vera, her sister-in-law Linda Mayrhofer, her five children: Eric Mayrhofer (Linda), Elaine Mayrhofer, Teresa Lomax, Sandra Frangiadakis (Mike), and Joe Mayrhofer (Heather), as well as 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Eva also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
A Funeral Service celebrating Eva’s life will be held at 11am, Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive.
A special thank-you to the staff and volunteers at the Kamloops Hospice for their kind care and attention to Eva and her family over the last few weeks. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Kamloops Hospice Association.

I was Eva’s “foot lady” for about 8 years, and enjoyed many bowls of homemade soup after our ingrown toenail work was completed. I cherish the visits I had with her, and all the wonderful travel stories. Sometimes when I arrived she would have Hawaiian music playing. Sincere sympathy to her entire family, she will be travelling again now.
Joe and Eva and their companies, North Kamloops Electric and Mayrhofer Holdings, were long time clients of the law firm at which I toiled, which is now Fulton & Co. North Kamloops Electric had a 3 digit file prefix, which attests to its longevity. I enjoyed acting as the lawyer for Joe and Eva and their Companies for more years than I care to admit to. Great folks, straight shooters, salt of the earth. Eva was a gem! My sincerest condolences to the family.
Hello Mardi –
Thank you for your condolences. I tried to contact you in January but I could only find one phone number in numerous places that was out of service. Your visits were special to Mom; you were the only one she wanted doing her feet!
