Robert Alexander Seaton born March 1st, 1926 in Edson Alberta spent his childhood and youth in the coal branch towns of Mountain Park and Luscar in the Rocky Mountains east of Jasper with his mother Jean (1999), father Thomas ( 1965 ) and siblings Jeanette, Renee ( 1997 ) and Tom ( 2009 ), died July 18th, 2015 in Kamloops B.C. He was educated in Edson and Luscar, joined the army in 1945, deployed to Europe, arriving weeks before the end of WWII. He then returned to Red Deer where he completed high school, followed by Edmonton for a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Alberta. Upon graduation, Bob was hired by the Alberta government as a clerk in the Department of Mines and Minerals. Over the next twenty years he married Dolores, had three daughters – Catharine (Brent) , Pamela ( Ian ), and Alexandra ( Paddy ) – and rose through the ranks to attain the position of Assistant Deputy Minister in the Ernest Manning government. In 1975, he resigned his position to start his own consulting firm with a close government colleague Dale Jordan, giving birth to Seaton-Jordan & Associates, a firm which operates today from its base in Calgary. In his position as president and expert on Alberta government oil and gas regulations, Robert travelled the world apprising oil companies in places such as Norway, Chile, Greece, Germany and Egypt of Alberta regulatory law. This busy working life slowed gradually until a complete retirement in 1998, whereupon Bob began to enjoy many pursuits, both social and intellectual which engaged him throughout his life. Anyone who knew Bob, knew his love of babies and small children. Thus, time spent with his four grandchildren – Robert (Kathryn), Alexander, Adam, and Paula – was a source of deep delight to him. His other passions included political philosophy, poetry, and hiking in the mountains. These interests saw him compile an overview of ‘Philosophers from Plato to Sartre” (self-published in 2005 ), read poetry with zeal in his declining years, and hike the hills of Alberta, B.C. and beyond with Del and friends throughout many fun-filled decades. Robert Seaton was a remarkable man, not only for his resume which is impressive, but for his character. Even when his mind began to falter, or perhaps because it did and the social masks dropped, his goodness was highlighted that much more. Patient, kind, honest, stoic, fun-loving, he lit up every room he entered, seeing the good in each person or situation, and enveloping all in his optimism and confidence, a true gentleman. And so Robert Seaton – son, husband, father, grandfather, businessman, writer, nature lover, cat enthusiast – we will miss you but feel blessed to have had the privilege of having you in our lives.

Pam, Ian and Paula,
So sorry to hear about your loss. We are thinking of you during this difficult time.

Mr. Seaton was the only person I called “Mr.” during my entire stay with the Department of Energy at the Alberta government. Years later, I ran into him again. Amazingly, he still remembered me and we chatted a bit. He took the time to introduce me to his granddaughter Paula. I believe she was about 3 years old at the time, pretty blonde hair, very shy but did say “hello” and then hugged her Grandpa. I was happy to see him one more time and will always remember him for being very kind, gentle and a very smart man. May Mr. Seaton’s memories give you peace as he looks down from Heaven and smiles. Rest in peace Mr. Seaton.
