It is with deepest sadness we announce the passing of Buckley Versechoyle Lord on Feb. 11th, 2024 at the age of 94 years. He was the beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle to many. He lived a happy, active and productive life full of love, integrity, honour, loyalty and had a great sense of humour.
Buckley was born on Aug. 30th, 1929 in Bracken Saskatchewan to Walter and Agnes Lord. He was the third child and brother to siblings Lenore, Valoree, Elaine, Dean and Eileen. Many skills such as farming, livestock care, and athletics were developed through his childhood and teen years in various locations in Saskatchewan, Ontario and Alberta. In 1949, after graduating, he moved from home to work for Greyhound in Lethbridge Alberta, and then to Red Rock Ontario. There, he became the Manager and Projectionist for a theatre, and also took day work in the accounting department of the paper mill. He married Doreen, his wife of 44 years, in 1952 and raised four children, Karen, Dan, Pat and Barry. After completing many accounting and computer programming courses in Winnipeg, he remained with Domtar as Computer Systems Analyst and Data Processing Supervisor.
The family then moved to Kamloops, BC in 1965, where Buckley accepted the position of Statistical Supervisor for Weyerhaeuser. He continued to work for them in that capacity, and as Accounting Manager in the lumber division, until he accepted a teaching position at Cariboo College. After a long career of teaching business courses, he retired from the College in 1989. Unfortunately, his loving, beautiful wife Doreen predeceased him in 1996. He shared a rich life with her and the family, doing activities such as travelling, camping, pool parties, fireside gatherings, dancing, swimming and biking. He also had many interests and hobbies such as home renovations, photography, horseshoe competitions, and more. He was a member of the horseshoe club, the St. George’s Church men’s club, and was a long standing member of the Moose Hall where he was very involved in it’s bookkeeping and other support roles.
A private family only graveside ceremony will be held on Saturday, February 24th, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
We will all miss him more than words can say, and he will be in our hearts forever.
Condolences may be sent to the family from

I worked with Buckley in the early 1970’s at Kamloops Lumber. He was the most caring and considerate person to work with.
Sad to read, but now he is at peace. To the family may they be consoled and given strength. Rest In Peace Buckley and thank you.

Hi Dan ..
Sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing.
My condolences to you and your family.
Take care…from your childhood friend.

Buckley was my Bookkeeping and Business Machines instructor at Cariboo College way back in 1985/86. He was always very ‘matter of fact’ and a very nice fellow and taught the courses well. Once in a while, way-back-when after I finished college, I would run into him and he always remembered me as one of his students in the Office Admin. Department.
Hi Dan

I was talking with Elaine yesterday and she shared the news of Buckley’s passing.
Sorry to hear the news, but know he has gone on to a better place.
I haven’t seen a lot of your Dad in the last 30 years, but have heard many stories of him from my mother and from Nino. Nino loved your Dad very much and talked of him often. I think the last time I saw Buckley was on one of Nino’s last trips to Canada when he came for my daughter’s wedding. Buckley had drove all the way to Ontario- of course, to see Nino.
He was a remarkable man and I will remember that about him.
Hope you are all well.
Best Regards,

Thank you everyone for your kind and thoughtful comments.
Dad was an awesome father to me, Dan, Pat and Barry.
Unfortunately we lost our mother, Doreen, in 1996 and our beautiful sister, Patricia, in 2014.
Dad was always Mom’s favourite dance partner . After she passed, Dad’s new dance partners included Velma, Bev, and Shirley . All of these wonderful ladies predeceased him.
There was a beautiful doe grazing at the gravesite when our family gathered to say our last goodbye.
“Buck and Doe “ as Dad and Mom were known as to their many friends are now together again.
Thanks to all of you for remembering Dad and sharing your considerate remarks with all of us.

Jim Pineau – Red Rock ON, now living in Thunder Bay
It was a sad day in 1965 when Buckley and his family left Red Rock and headed west. Buckley was a very involved citizen in the community. When I think about it now, he had a full time job in the mill and then yes, ran the movie theatre which easily kept him busy from about 6 till 11 o’clock. So I will relate some highlights that I remember:
I was employed by Buckley at an early age to change the movie posters for upcoming attractions at an offsite location. I believe this was my first paying job. My mother also work at the theatre, in the concession and taking tickets.
One Easter holidays my older brother and I were hired to tidy up Buckley’s basement – get rid of some old stuff and stack the fire wood etc. Our reward was an old balloon tire bicycle which we shared. I think the reason we got these opportunities was because Buckley and my Dad both worked in the “office” at the mill and when Buckley needed a hand my Dad was only too happy to mention it to us.
In the winter, every Sunday afternoon Buckley would take a group of youngsters skiing up Paju’s mountain. We would have a few minutes of instruction and the away we would go.
When my brother and I were in our mid teens we were playing fastball in the men’s league. Buckley organized an all-star team and took us to a very prestigious tournament in Atikokan – about a 4 hour drive at that time.
And finally a number of people have mentioned what a good dancer he was and I’m sure he honed those skills in Red Rock. He was definitely a very fine man and I am sorry for your loss.
I have very fond memories of my uncle Buckley and Aunt Doreen. I drive west from Schreiber with them and Barry in1977 and spent the summer in Kamloops. I will be forever grateful for their kindness. Dan, Karen and Barry, it’s been a long time but you are all in my thoughts.
He was a great teacher at Cariboo College. My condolences to the family.
