The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5
Daniel James Carson died suddenly on June 2, 2025, in Kamloops. He was only 27 years old.
Danny was born March 30, 1998, in Prince George, two minutes—as he loved to point out—before his twin brother Matthew. His parents, Lisa and Mike Carson, held their sons close that night, imagining the best of all possible worlds for their new family. Even though Danny is gone, and those worlds are diminished, Danny will live on forever in the same hearts that loved him from the drawing of his first breath to the fading of his last and every moment in between.
Danny was a joyful child, inseparable from his brother, Matt. Together the two would play on the family acreage in Prince George under the watchful eye of Riley and Jake, the family dogs. Every day, that little valley would be filled with the sounds of their laughter, and Danny’s laughter was a contagious magic. He was a loyal friend, brother, and son his whole life. He loved music, movies, stories, and art. As a child, he would create the most amazing animations on his computer, usually starring the boys’ pet birds, Grey and Smoothie.
When he got older and started attending Prince George Secondary School, he continued making movies with a wonderful group of drama students, including Matthew and his close friends. At PGSS, Dan also showed great passion for writing in Ms. Marren-Reitsma’s Writing 12 class and his dad’s AP Literature 12 class. His love of music persisted, too, and he became deeply involved in sound mixing and recording; he also learned to play guitar and wrote dozens of hilarious songs that he showcased for projects in other classes.
Danny was a genius with electronics, and, from an early age, instinctively understood computers and other devices (although he was rather more fond of taking things apart than he was about putting them back together). Both at home and at school he was fondly known as “Tech-support.” Even his teachers and older students would ask him to help set up equipment or show them how to use new software. Given his talents with computers, animation, and design, it seemed natural for Dan to choose to attend BCIT after he graduated from high school; unfortunately, when the pandemic forced the Burnaby campus to shut down, Danny returned home and never completed his final semester. He was excited about attending Thompson Rivers University this fall to pursue a degree in computer science.
Dan was bright and funny. He was a protector and a helper who loved his family and brought great joy into their lives and the lives of everyone who knew him. Daniel is survived by his parents Lisa and Mike Carson, his brother Matthew, and their surly but loveable dog, Bentley, who all currently reside in Kamloops. He also leaves his maternal grandmother, Eileen Gulak, of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, his cousins Rachel, Madison, Liam, and uncle, Neil Gulak, who all live in Saskatchewan, as well as his aunt, Chris Carson, of Prince George, and his cousin, Alex Carson, of Calgary. His many other relatives in the United States will also be deeply saddened by Dan’s passing. In addition to his immediate family, Danny leaves behind many close friends.
Danny is predeceased by his grandparents, Vern and Barb Carson, Larry Gulak, his aunt, Candice Winter, and a menagerie of beloved pets.
If you can, please join his family as they come together to mourn Daniel’s loss, and, more importantly, to celebrate the beauty of his life.
A Service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive.
For those who cannot attend in-person, the event will also be livestreamed and recorded:

memories of Dan during your 27 years
with him!
Mike,
Eva and I are thinking of you, Lisa, and especially Matthew. This news of Dan’s passing is so sad. We have fond memories of the dinner we shared with you all in our home and distinctly remember how far beneath a shopping Mecca the boys found our local Mall to be. I remember also the sense of unwavering pride so very evident any time you speak of your sons.
My sincere condolences Mike and Lisa. This is a beautiful tribute to Danny. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time. May you find peace and comfort in the happy joyful times you shared.
you have shaped so much of who i am — the games i play, the things i find funny, the songs i queue up for the sake of a good laugh, and oh my god, my opinions about pretty much anything relating to computers. who knew mcafee has so much bizarre lore, right? you spent more nights with me than i can count staying up until we saw the sun, letting me play portal dozens of times on repeat without complaint, telling me stories to make me laugh, or just coexisting while you expressed your frustrations with tanuki sunset. you’re the source of most, if not all, of the inside jokes the five of us share, and also the source of the infinite impressions for which i’m plagued with an inability to get the voices right.
i hope you know how much i’ve cherished, adored, and admired you — all the time, for my whole life. my friends in school i’m sure would be sick of hearing about danny the tech genius, but i would still take every opportunity to brag about you. to me, you were the textbook definitions of both brilliant and hilarious, and i thought that everyone should know that. it never mattered how long it had been since we’d seen each other; being with you always brought the same feeling as getting home after a long day: comfortable, familiar, peaceful. your love for and desire to help your people being so obvious and sure taught me the type of person i want to be for mine.
i know you’re going to be everywhere. you’ll be in every game i play, every place i travel to, in the mountains in bc and in the prairies in saskatchewan. you’ll be in every bonfire, every bocce ball, every dog with a funny little anteater face. i know you’ll be everywhere, but i would do anything for you to just be here.
i love you so much, deej
A beautiful tribute to a young man lost too early. Sending heartfelt condolences to all of Danny’s family. May your cherished memories hold you through this unfair but necessary grieving process. Thinking of you, take care, Beth Dye
