Gemma Therese Vidal (née Girard) of Kamloops, BC, passed away peacefully at Royal Inland Hospital on March 4, 2025, at the age of 90.
Gemma was born on September 24, 1934, in Edmonton, Alberta, to Wilford and Sadie Girard. She was predeceased by her husband, Cyrille, on September 19, 2017, as well as her parents.
She leaves to mourn her loss her sons, Leslie (Sheila) and David (Jody); granddaughter Jessica (Mike) Boucher; grandson Andrew (Cynthia) Vidal; great-grandchildren Remi, Luc, Billy, and Annabelle Boucher; and step-great -grandchildren, Jordan, Amiah and Rylee Brick; sister, Elizabeth (Dave) Antonchuk; sisters-in-law, Chathrina Girard and Bertine Lefebvre, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Gemma and Cyrille were married on February 27, 1954, and later adopted their two sons, Leslie and David. Some of Gemma’s fondest memories were of coaching minor hockey in Hinton for six years. She was also an avid camper and fisherwoman who loved sewing, knitting, oil painting, and crafting.
A Memorial Service will be Friday, May 16, 2025 at 11am in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 635 Tranquille Rd, Kamloops, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gemma’s name may be made to the BC Lung Association or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

I spent a lot time with the two of them and will never forget the love and friendship she showed to my grandma. She was a very special lady that showed love and kindness everywhere she went. Mon nom est Gabrielle Prince. Je suis la nièce de Gemma et Cyrille du côté de ma mère Andréa Vidal (décédée en 2004). Je suis du Québec. Comme vous savez, Cyrille était né et à grandi au Québec. Nous sommes plusieurs ici membres de la famille.
Bien que j’ai très peu connu mes cousins et leur famille, je garde un souvenir lointain de leur visite chez nous à Oka, où nous avons grandi.
Je suis vraiment triste d’apprendre le décès de tante Gemma. Je lui ai parlé au téléphone pour lui souhaiter un bon anniversaire pour ses 90 ans. Aussi je désire donner toute ma sympathie à mes cousins et leur famille, ainsi qu’à tous ceux qui faisait partie de sa vie.

Gemma was a wonderful neighbour & friend whose friendship continued when she moved to the Shores. We are very sorry for your loss and sad to say that we only found out yesterday of your Mom’s passing. I will say news spread to her friend & former neighbour Maria Vinsentin in Italy before us!
