May 25, 1931 – May 22, 2025
It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Gisela Van Dyk (née Schiffer) in Kamloops, British Columbia, on May 22, 2025, just three days before her 94th birthday.
Born in Bonn, Germany, Gisela lived through the hardships of the Second World War before immigrating to Canada in the early 1950s. She first settled in Thunder Bay, Ontario, where she raised her family, and later relocated to Kamloops, BC in 1981, where she lived for the rest of her life.
Gisela was the devoted mother of eight children. She is survived by Bernhard (Bernie), Rose Marie and Jacqueline and was predeceased by Hans (Josie), Henriette (Hena), Albert (Abbie), Leo, and Philip. Gisela was a cherished grandmother and Oma to nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
An adventurer at heart, Gisela loved to travel. While she returned often to Germany to visit family and friends, Canada was her much loved home. She cherished the outdoors, whether camping with loved ones, bird watching or sightseeing among the mountains and lakes.
Gisela will be remembered for her resilience, her love of nature, and the enduring devotion she had for her family. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A private family gathering will be held in her memory.
