“Mom has closed the cupboard door for the last time”
The family announces the passing of our mom and gramma in the early morning hours of August 15.
She is survived by her two children: Donald McQuay (Iris Rich) and Shelley (Chris) Roerslev. Her grandchildren: Codie McQuay, Colter McQuay, Alysha (Jesse) Roerslev, Liam Roerslev, and Joshua Roerslev. Her brothers: Ralph (Eva) Lazzarotto and Hector (Ola) Lazzarotto and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews both in Canada and Italy.
Ines was born in Golden and raised in Revelstoke and Monte Creek with her two brothers Ralph and Hector. She completed high school in Kamloops at St. Anne’s Academy and her nurse’s training in Victoria at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Mom nursed in Oliver before returning to Kamloops where she met the love of her life, Bob (dad) celebrating 60 years of marriage. Together they bought and built their family home in Brockehurst where they raised their children Donald and Shelley on 2 ½ acres of apple orchard. After Dad retired they moved to Blind Bay on the Shuswap providing many a happy holiday for their grandchildren. After 16 years they moved back to Kamloops where they resided at West Pine Villas and for the last 7 years at Kamloops Chartwell Residences.
Mom lived life to the fullest. Mom didn’t have favorites… she loved it all. She was an avid golfer, swimmer, downhill and cross country skier and was known to walk all over North Kamloops even into her 90th year.
Mom was devoted to her faith and church. She enjoyed the companionship of her Beta Sigma Phi sisters providing many “asparagus sandwiches” for their gatherings. She and Bob were a dynamic Bridge partner duo being triumphant over many a competitor. She was also known to play a mean crib game.
Mom lived to see her “ducklings (grandchildren) all in a row” and was most proud of their accomplishments on soccer fields, hockey arenas, gymnastic floors, academic graduations, travelling adventures, employments and relationships. Mom also loved her “road trips” with her family to visit family across BC and recently to Italy. Mom possessed a profound wisdom and was able to impart her great depth of knowledge to each of us in her own special way. She will be remembered for her elegance and grace, for the twinkle in her eye and for her vitality for life.
The family would like to thank the staff of Marjorie Snowden House for their loving kindness and care for mom as they remember her for her colorful personality and wittiness. A special thank-you and appreciation to Dr. Barnard for her compassionate care.
Prayers will be shared at 7:00 pm on Thursday August 21 at OLPH
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday August 22 at OLPH with a reception to follow.
Flowers gratefully declined and in lieu the family requests donations be made to the Kamloops Hospice Society.
