July 28, 1931 – May 8, 2025
John immigrated to British Columbia, Canada in1957 as a refugee from Hungary. He found work in the lumber industry, married Maria Dobronyi (nee KOVACS), and settled in Kamloops and built their house. The following years they visited several times the old country, and more often to Vancouver Island, the members of Maria’s first marriage family. After Maria battled a long time with cancer and deceased, he retired from work. John loved to take care his older house and fruit trees. In 2013 he sold his house and took his home in The Shores Retirement Residence.
John liked to keep up with TV news and watch sports – especially tennis. He enjoyed playing card games, socializing, loved good music, social and square dancing. He also was a long time member of The Kamloops St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church.
He lived at The Shores Residence until he passed away, May 8, in Kamloops. The extended family lives at the Island, and will cherish Maria and John’s memory.
