It is with great sadness that we said goodbye to Jeannine Jaccard on July 17, 2025 at Royal Inland Hospital.
Jeannine was born on October 26, 1933 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. She was the youngest of 5 children born of Fabiola and Albert Lapointe. Her siblings included Tony, Raymond, Eugene and Stella all of which have predeceased her. Jeannine’s early years beginning in Shaunavon, and later in Rolling Hills, Alberta represented challenging years as was the case with many during the Great Depression. The Lapointe family persevered through this period, all pulling together to make ends meet. We recall Jeannine describing her childhood experiences living in a tent and building a barn constructed of mud and straw. How they survived during the long, cold prairie winters is difficult to imagine but they did so by the unity of a loving family and a strong work ethic.
The family later moved to Trail, BC where father Albert worked at the Cominco smelter. Following graduation from high school, Jeannine took on the challenge of achieving her Registered Nurse certification from Saint Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. Following graduation, she was employed at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver where she met her present-day husband, Arthur Jaccard. The two were married in 1956 and enjoyed their early years raising 3 sons (Michael, Richard and Steven) while building a house in the Deep Cove area of North Vancouver. Jeannine was an awesome mom to the boys, having taken an active roll in their sports, school, church and other activities, all while working part time as a nurse and supporting husband Arthur in his busy work life.
In 1973 Arthur’s job took the family to Kamloops, BC where they have resided to the present day. Jeannine took on a position of Occupational Health Nurse at Weyerhaeuser pulp mill in 1976 where she enjoyed several years of employment until her retirement, along with Arthur in 1992. They lived a long and healthy retirement where they enjoyed an abundance of travel in their fifth wheel trailer and a long list of trips to Europe, Australasia, Africa, Asia and both North and South America. Jeannine had a wonderful presence in the lives of 10 grandkids and 8 great grandkids. In the later years, Jeannine and Arthur took residence at Riverbend seniors complex in Kamloops where she lived out the remainder of her life. Of note Jeannine maintained a loving relationship over multiple decades with niece Cheryl Schmidt (NEE Lapointe), her husband Gord and their kids Calvin (and family), Carly and Katryna (and family).
Jeannine passed away in the company of her loving family and is survived by husband Arthur (68 years married), sons Michael and spouse Brenda, Richard and spouse Maria and Steven and spouse Susae, grandkids Mathew, Christopher, Shaela, Siara, Shannae, Kimberly, Daniel, Nathan, Cody, as well as her beloved great grandchildren, Olivia, Henry, Benjamin, James, Aria, Alice, Damien and Kaleigh. Jeannine was never one to want to be the center of attention, and in her last wishes she has respectfully requested a small family celebration of life. While we are sad to see her go, we are so forever grateful that she lived a complete and fulfilled life.
The family would like to give our sincerest thanks to the many friends and family who have reached out since Mom’s passing, and all the wonderful people at both Riverbend and Gemstone facilities as well as Royal Inland Hospital.
