MAYBELLE DOROTHY NORDICK 1930 — 2023

MAYBELLE DOROTHY NORDICK

The Nordick family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Maybelle Nordick, our mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Maybelle Dorothy (Hardie) Nordick was born on June 15, 1930 in Dafoe, Saskatchewan and died December 13, 2023 at her home, in Kamloops, British Columbia.

Born to Bill and Lydia (Johnston) Hardie in Dafoe Saskatchewan, Maybelle, was the youngest of 10 children (Ronald, Charles, Olive, Alex, Willis, Irene, Bill, Jean and Clarence (Joe) all of whom are deceased. Ronald, Alex and Willis all served in WWII and Willis was killed at Falaise, following the Normandy Landings.

Maybelle met Florian (Ed) Edward Nordick and they were married on 31 May 1950. Ed was also a WWII veteran and, following the war, trained as a meat cutter. After working together in a butcher shop in Kamsack, Saskatchewan, they ran their own butcher shop in Sturgis, Saskatchewan until they sold their business and moved to Kamloops, BC in January 1961.

Maybelle and Ed had eight children, Glenn (Cheryllynn Theriault) and Wendy (Bill Blair) were born in Kamsack, Teresa (Bob Wright) was born in Preeceville, Saskatchewan. The remaining five children: Allen (deceased 11-Dec-23) (Deanna Goodwin), Bonnie (Mark Bartle), Linda (Nick DeCicco), Kurt (Lanette Kowalsky), and Karen (Nick Dicostanzo) were all born in Kamloops.

While Ed worked at Safety Mart Foods for 21 years, Maybelle was a homemaker and also sold World Book Encyclopedia, until the youngest children were in school. She lived a faith-based life and was very involved in Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) Parish and eventually started and managed two Thrift Shops (Penny Power and Abby’s Attic) to support OLPH, in addition to life-long support of Pro Life. She also sponsored several Vietnamese and Cambodian refugee families and, under the Thompson Rivers University Homestay programme, boarded many international students over the years.

Her great joys were gardening, lake life, reading, board games, family events and travelling. After 60 years of marriage Ed died on December 20, 2010. Maybelle is survived by 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren with the twentieth on the way.

The funeral for both Maybelle and Allen Nordick will be held at 2:00 pm, December 18, 2023, at the OLPH church in Kamloops.

Maybelle requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St Vincent de Paul or Pro Life in her name.

Our family offers our condolences and deepest sympathy for the passing of Maybelle and Allen. They will be greatly missed and their loving memories will live on. Maybelle and Ed sponsored my mom and dad from Cambodia in 1981. My dad told me the story of how Allen was the one that lived next door to their basement suite and helped call a taxi to bring my mom and him to the Royal Inland Hospital, after her water broke, to give birth to me, her first born in Canada. Our pictures of the Nordick family will keep the blessed memories alive of Maybelle, Ed, Allen, and your family, as we pass along the stories for generations to come. May God bless your family with comfort during this time. Much love, sincerely, Neira, Nay, Ronald and Nicole Y.
