Timothy Cecil Worthington 1935 — 2019

Timothy Cecil Worthington

Born, November 4, 1935 in Irma, Alberta, Timothy “Tim” Cecil Worthington grew up in a harsh prairie environment. Work was hard, money was short, and friends and neighbours were remote. Despite the challenges of his youth, Tim grew up to be a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Tim exuded quiet strength and loyalty. He was a husband of 62 years to his childhood sweetheart, Gail Worthington (MacKenzie). Father to five extraordinary children – Debra Worthington (wife of Fred Wallin), Michelle Wortelboer (wife of Rudy Wortelboer), Diane Tulloch; Todd Worthington (husband of Teresa Worthington), and Darrel Worthington (husband of Vanessa Worthington). Grandfather to ten, and great-grandfather to (almost) eight. Although he was the only child of Cecil Worthington and Leona Frye, Tim was happy to find a connection with his sister and brothers on his father’s side in his late twenties, which carried on throughout his life. Tim’s goofy grin, unassuming love, and thoughtful insight never failed to brighten the sphere of those in his life – family and friends alike. And a great friend he was. Tim’s friendships were of the lasting kind – some for more than 50 years. Many of his closest connections grew from his passion for motorcycling, a hobby that he let go only three years ago. Tim spent countless hours on his BMW or his Goldwing touring across North America and Thailand with Gail riding pillion. When he wasn’t off exploring, Tim rarely missed a motorcycle breakfast, or daily coffee clutch with the gang.

Tim had an incredible work ethic and paid careful attention to the world around him, which earned him the hard won ability to retire from his career as a drywall contractor at age 49. Tim and Gail spent many of his post-retirement years globe trotting on extended adventures in places like India, Nepal, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Greece to name a few. In his later years, Tim relished time with his family and friends, even as his drive for excursions away eased. Tim remained at home in the care of Gail until he was briefly hospitalized prior to his death on May 17, 2019.

A celebration of Tim’s life will be held at the Kamloops Funeral Home on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada, the Alzheimer Society of Canada, or the Canadian CancerSociety.

Flora is survived by her six sons, Jim (Arlene), Doug (Teri), Harvey (Yvonne), Brian (Marilynn), Gary (Kathy), and Dennis (Brenda), brother Joe Switzer, along with fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband Fraser McLeod and only daughter Diane Walton. Flora was born in Edson, Alberta on May 19, 1924, she married her sweet heart Fraser McLeod on May 22, 1946. She was one of fourteen siblings, her father Harvey Switzer was a pharmacist in Edson and she worked in his drug store called “Switzer Drug Store” which is still run today by his family. Over the next fifteen years, Flora and Fraser had seven children, one girl and six boys. They moved to Kamloops in 1959 because Fraser had to move to Kamloops as an engineer on the C.N Railway. Sadly, in 2008, she lost her only daughter to cancer. Flora loved having her family around for dinners and had a passion for sewing, knitting, gardening and cooking, especially her famous cinnamon buns. We love you Mom. The McLeod Family.

Martin “Red” Delaney 1955 — 2019

Martin “Red” Delaney

Martin “Red” Delaney passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at the age of 63.   Martin was predeceased by his father Jerry and step-father Sterling.

He is survived by his beloved mother Frances, and loving wife Joanne, by his children Bridget (Murray) Lute, James (Cassie) Delaney and grandchildren Hunter, Hudson and Harlow, all of Kamloops.  Also surviving Martin are his siblings Jim (Cal), Patricia (Al), Kathleen (Lorn), Jean (Greg), Paul (Amaya), and Peter (Angie).  In addition, Martin leaves behind his Uncle Frank, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Martin was born into a large and boisterous family.  His Mother, siblings and their spouses/partners have always been essential to his happiness.

Martin carried on the railroad tradition following his father into CNR.  He started his career as Labourer and retired as Senior Manager, with the many friends he made at work remaining an important part of his life.

In 1980, he met and married his wife Joanne.  His two children were born and became the lights of his life.  Eventually three grandchildren entered his life; his buddy Hunter, Hudson, whose antics always made him laugh, and Harlow who melted his heart just by saying “Hi Papa”.

The other loves in his life included all of his puppies over the years, gardening, fishing in his boat, and staying in touch with family and friends both near and far, often using Facebook with considerable expertise.  Our hearts are aching, but we will live our lives in a way that makes him proud.

We wish to say a very special thank you to Dr. Howie and his wonderful team for the knowledge, support and kindness provided to us in this most difficult time.  In addition, thank you to our friends and neighbours for their kindness and support over the years and especially during Martin’s illness.

Memorial donations may be made to the Kamloops SPCA.  The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 18th in the Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Dr., with a reception to follow.
