Mary (Molly) Wild 1928 — 2016

Mary (Molly) Wild

Molly passed away January 8, 2016, with family by her side, at the age of 87 due to complications from pneumonia.  Molly was born August 8, 1928 in Scotland.  She moved to Ocean Falls, BC, Canada in 1955.  There she met her husband of 52 years Andrew (Andy) Wild.  In 1966 Molly, Andy and their 3 children moved to Kamloops, B.C.

Molly worked many years at Simpson Sears and at The Bay; she thoroughly enjoyed all the people she met.

Molly was predeceased by her beloved son Errol on August 9th, 2009 and by her loving husband Andy on May 19th, 2010.  Molly will be missed by her daughters Julie, Carly (Claude), and Debbie (and family) from Scotland; by her sister Irene and brother Lenny from Scotland; as well as by her grandchildren Dylan Drummond (Victoria), Amber Akerman (Corey), Taylor Wild, and Logan Royer: also by her great grandchildren Miller and Isla Akerman.

We would like to express our thanks to doctors Paul Yanko for the many years of taking care of mom, (you could always make her smile), and to Brenda Laupland for her care and kindness over the past few months.

At Molly’s request there will be a private family service.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the “Wildman Memorial Society”, C/O Claude & Carly Royer, 6398 Dallas Drive, Kamloops, BC, V2C 4X5.  The Society was formed in Memory of Molly’s son Errol Wild; a prominent Kamloops soccer coach. The Society awards scholarships to KYSA and TRU Wolfpack Soccer Players.

GERALDINE “GERI” WEGELIN       2015 — 2015

GERALDINE “GERI” WEGELIN

On her 79th Birthday, in her own way and on her own time, Geri Wegelin passed away. Geri was the youngest of 5 daughters born to Steve and Esther Stefano. As the youngest, Geri was just a little bit spoiled and often got into just pure, simple fun kinds of trouble. Geri’s Dad was a railway man and her early years were spent living with her family in the Dunster train station, just feet from the train tracks. Geri’s family moved to Prince George and that is where Geri thought of as her home.

After graduation, Geri made the bold and brave move to go to school in Vancouver. Returning home, Geri got to use her skills at the local movie theaters and landed a very important job working for the Prince George RCMP station. It was here that Geri met the “new, single, handsome and shy” RCMP member and she decided to reconsider her decision to not date anyone from work. Paul began escorting Geri from the movie theater to do the nightly bank deposit and very quickly, Paul became her one true love.

Geri and Paul married in 1962 and after 5 years of marriage, just about the time Geri learned to boil water, make rock hard hockey puck muffins and the occasional extravagant baked Alaska, Paul asked if it was maybe time to start a family. Geri always said that it seemed like she blinked and Steven and then Danielle were born.Read More & Leave Condolences »

LINA BASSO 1922 — 2015

LINA BASSO

Lina Basso – a kind, warm, loving, gentle, fun and wonderful woman – has gone to be with the multitude of angels who, she exclaimed, were there to meet her in her final moments.

Lina passed away very peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2015 from a very brief illness at the age of 93. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Judy, her sons Luik, Gerard and Armando, their spouses and her brother Jon, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She also had very special friendships with so many dear, dear friends of all ages. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Massimo.

The talent she had for cooking amazing food; being a great and thoughtful friend; being kind, gentle and generous; was indeed an excellent example to those who knew her. Her practicality, great wit and wisdom were always present and appreciated.

Lina will also be remembered for the many wonderful meals she prepared at the old and (for a while) new Colombo Hall. She loved working with her best friends Idanna and Fernanda.  It was a kitchen full of laughs, joy and dedication as they prepared a wonderful meal made from scratch for all to enjoy. The pasta and roast chicken were the favourite and most often requested. That is why the food was always so very delicious, and is still talked about after so many years.  One time she remarked, “It is so nice to just be cooking for 100 people”.  That just shows how easily this work came to her.

The Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 635 Tranquille Rd., Kamloops, BC.  For those who wish, a Viewing will take place at Kamloops Funeral Home on Sunday, December 20 from 2 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 285 Fortune Dr. Kamloops. Interment of her cremains to follow at a later date.

A special thank you to Dr. McLaren and Lee, the whole family at Hospice House and to all who were of so much help over the past while.                                                                Lina requested that you consider a generous donation to Hospice House Kamloops. Flowers gratefully declined.
