LORNA OTSIG 1934 — 2023

LORNA OTSIG

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lorna Otsig, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who left us on September
26, 2023.

Lorna was pre-deceased by her loving husband, John, and was a cherished half-century resident of Kamloops, British Columbia.

Lorna is survived by her three devoted children: Neil (Karen), Arlene (Rocky), and Les, who will always hold her memory close to their hearts. She was a loving grandmother to Blayne (Autumn), Lee, Julia (Mick), Brittany, Liberty, and Jack. Lorna’s legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Penelope, Anouk, and Lara, who will forever be inspired by her love and warmth.

Lorna was not just a mother and grandmother; she was a talented seamstress whose creations brought joy to many. Her cooking skills were legendary, and everyone eagerly anticipated her delicious turkey dinners and sauerkraut with spareribs. Her culinary talents were a testament to the love she poured into every meal she prepared.

Lorna had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed travel with family and friends. She cherished the moments spent with her very special friends, Nada and her wonderful neighbour Judy. Their companionship brought immeasurable happiness to her life, and their memories will continue to bring comfort to those who knew her.

As we say goodbye to Lorna, we take solace in the belief that one day, we will be reunited. Her kindness, love, and cherished memories will forever remain in our hearts. May she find eternal peace on her new journey, and may her legacy of love and warmth continue to inspire us all.

Special thanks to Dr. De Villiers, Meagan, all of the nursing and staff on 6 North at RIH, and the wonderful team at the Kamloops Hospice Association, your compassion, empathy, care and attention was amazing and truly appreciated.

WENDEL MARK LINFITT 1961 — 2023

WENDEL MARK LINFITT

Our brother, known lovingly as Brother Bear, Uncle Mark and Great Uncle Mark, passed away in Kamloops, BC on Sept 3, 2023.

The first of three sons born to Ed and Dianne Linfitt in Dawson Creek , BC on December 1, 1961, Wendel is survived by his brothers Michael and Murray, his sister in laws Vicki and Bernie, his nephews and niece Christopher, Steven and Kimberly, and his great nephews and nieces Aiden, Natalya, Isabelle, Logan, Louise, Lily and Thorin.

Our dad said everyone needs to be good at something or have something to be proud of. He was right about that. Wendel worked hard to achieve his goals and put his all into whatever he did. He was a talented Red Seal journeyman carpenter that could build anything he put his mind to.

Wendel loved spending time visiting with our aunts, uncles and cousins and sharing in their lives. He was generous with his smiles and his quirky sense of humour and was always willing to use his talents and abilities to lend a helping hand.

He was an explorer at heart. His hobbies were exploring nature and treasure hunting with his metal detectors. His passions were movies and video games and exploring the worlds they provided. He had a beautiful and kind spirit as anyone who knew him will attest to……

Rest in peace Brother Bear, you are missed.

There won’t be a formal service but if you wish to, please make a donation in Wendel’s name to the heart disease charity of your choice.

LESLIE CATHERINE VAN DYKE 1955 — 2023

LESLIE CATHERINE VAN DYKE

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Leslie Van Dyke announce her passing. She was born in Vancouver, BC on April 2, 1955 to parents Roy and Beverly Langham and passed away September 17, 2023 in Kamloops, BC.  She moved around a lot as a child, but her fondest memories were those of living in Ocean Falls, BC. Her family moved to Kamloops when she was a teenager, here, she settled and lived the remainder of her life. At Norkam Secondary, she met Gary Van Dyke and they married in 1975. She had 2 children and enjoyed every minute spent raising her family.

She leaves to cherish her memories, Daughter, Stefanie (Rob), and Son, Scott (Erica) along with beloved grandchildren Brianna and Nathan Howell.  She also leaves a Sister, Tracey Abramson, her treasured cats Misty and Betsy, and close friends.

Leslie is predeceased by her Husband, Parents, and many adored cats and dogs that she dreamed of reuniting with when she left this earth.

Leslie was passionate about her love for all animals. Before her health declined, she spent her days doting on her cats, grand-dogs and grand-cats and delighted in watching the deer in the yard. She always had a cat on her lap while watching favourite shows such as The Walking Dead, MASH, and SpongeBob SquarePants. When not snuggling animals, Leslie enjoyed coffee/tea dates with friends, and shopping for treasured trinkets and knick-knacks. She especially loved every minute spent with her kids and grandkids. Leslie had a generous and loving heart, and always saw the good in everyone. Her humour was one of a kind, and her positive outlook always made a bad day better.

The family would like to thank Dr. Howie and the staff at Gemstone Care Centre for their care and compassion in the final year of Mom’s life.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Leslie’s name to an animal rescue or charity of your choosing.

Honouring Leslie’s wishes, there will be no formal service.
