ROBERT “BOBBY” MARK TOOLE 1953 — 2023

ROBERT “BOBBY” MARK TOOLE

It is with shock and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Bobby, peacefully in his sleep, at home in Kamloops.

Bobby was raised in Watson Lake with his siblings. Growing up in the Yukon Bobby loved all that the wilderness offered, camping, fishing, climbing mountains and hunting.  It only seemed natural that he guided for several years for his parents’ outfitting business.

He started a career with Yukon Electric in Watson Lake and Beaver Creek. His work with BC Hydro led him and his wife Debbie and their young family to various towns and communities in BC.

Bobby eventually retired in Kamloops. He loved the hot and dry weather it offered.  Bobby took up gardening, taking great pleasure in growing vegetables, tomatoes and even watermelon.  In addition to his love of gardening much of the summer was spent camping and fishing.

Many winters were spent enjoying Thailand.  Bobby loved everything Thai!  The food, the temples, the ancient ruins, the history and the culture.  But most of all Bobby loved the people, hence, many friendships were made.

Bobby is now reunited with his brother Denis, daughter Cheryl and his loving parents Gordon and Rose.

Survived by his wife Debbie and son Tony (Pairin).

Brothers Ron (Lena), Don (Donna), Jamie (Anne) and sisters Debbie (Darwyn) and Patti (Brian)

Grandchildren Rose, Christopher, Scott and Ida

Bobby will be interred along side his daughter Cheryl in Kamloops.

A celebration of life will take place at a date to be announced.

Forever in our hearts
Now in the hands of our Heavenly Father

MALCOLM LORNE TAYLOR 1952 — 2023

MALCOLM LORNE TAYLOR

It is with incredibly deep sadness that we announce the passing of Malcolm Taylor in a tragic accident, on July 23, 2023.

Dad is survived by his loving wife Carole, his daughters Niki (Reuben) and Heidi (John), grandchildren Wyatt, Brolin, Emersyn, Jillene, Dawson and Jaxson, siblings Sandi (Val), Bob (Bonnie), Debi (Donny), Heather (Jim), Kelly, sisters-in-law Jackie and Bonny, brother-in-law Brad and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dad grew up in Westwold B.C. with his large family, where he spent his childhood looking out for his younger siblings, playing baseball and farming. Dad loved his Chevy’s and kept them immaculate.

Uncle Kel recently bought and rebuilt one of Dad’s favorites – the red S10; they were both very proud of it. Dad was a very loyal and kind brother and son.

In 1972, Dad married our mom Kathy and together they raised us at our home in Westwold. He was a patient and caring father; our greatest teacher. We spent our lives following him around, soaking up his knowledge and kindness. Highlights for us included fishing, riding in the bucket of the loader or in the back of the truck doing dump runs. Dad made any chore or event more fun and joyful, just being in his presence.

Dad started logging at 18 years old; he then started Martin Mountain Logging Company with his dad Archie in 1975. Upon Archie’s retirement, Dad’s brother Cam became his partner where they spent many years in the bush doing what they loved with their brothers, family and long-time friends.

Dad and Cam purchased property at Scuitto Lake where they enjoyed many years camping and fishing with their families and friends.

Although logging was forever in his heart, Dad started working alongside Niki and Reuben at Mike’s Auto Towing which lasted 17 years until it was sold in 2016. Dad could always be found fixing vehicles in the shop or running his loader in the yard with a smile on his face.

Dad and Carole met and then married in 2010 and spent their past years between Scuitto and their home in Kamloops. Dad loved Carole’s delicious home-cooked meals and enjoyed life with their dogs Paws and Zeuz. Dad was incredibly proud of Carole and all her volunteer efforts with their St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Paws.

Dad was predeceased by his dad Archie, mom Mabel, brother Cam and sisters Lois and baby Marie.

Dad was a mentor to many with his patient, fun-loving and hard-working nature and was loved by all those whose lives he touched. His memory will forever be cherished by his wife, daughters, family and loyal friends.

Dad will be laid to rest beside his Mom and Dad in the Westwold Cemetery.

The celebration of Dad’s life will take place on Saturday August 26th at the Westwold Community Hall at 1:00 pm, with a tea to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA in memory of Dad. We love you and miss you Dad; till we see you again….

ELEANOR KATHERINE “KAY” SCHIMPF 1937 — 2023

ELEANOR KATHERINE “KAY” SCHIMPF

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Eleanor Katherine Schimpf, or as everyone knew her, Kay, on June 27, 2023 at the age of 86.

Kay was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Tony Schimpf, parents Bill & Edith Davidson, and sister Wilma, and is survived by her sister Lorraine.

She is lovingly remembered by her children Janet (Jeff) and Keith (Barb), grandchildren Chase (Alanna), Thea (Elijah), Ryan (Sherry), Graham, and Lance (Brianne), several great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Kamloops, Kay was raised in Beresford on the family farm. In 1954, Kay, then known as Katie Davidson, presented her grand champion steer at the Kamloops and BC 4H competitions, winning the provincial crown and representing BC in the national competition in Toronto. She always had a way with animals, and loved riding horses and chasing cows on her uncle’s ranch in Campbell Creek. In 1955, Kay graduated from Kam High, an impressive feat considering that she missed many days of school in the fall, harvesting the family crops, and in winter, being snowed-in up in Beresford. Soon after graduation, in 1957, Kay began working at Chapman’s Transport, where she met her future husband Tony. They were married on October 11, 1958 and soon started a family in Brocklehurst.

Things were tight in the early years as Kay honed her cooking & homemaking skills. Her plentiful garden and abundant fruit trees allowed her to stock the pantry with fruits, vegetables, and preserves, while the root cellar (which she dug herself), kept root vegetables fresh nearly year-round. She soon mastered baking bread, pies, and cookies, which always had the neighbour kids pressed against the screen door pleading for a bite. Her masterful sewing skills allowed her to fashion and mend her husband and children’s clothes, while her background on the farm gave her the strong stomach to become the neighbourhood’s doctor. Someone was always getting bandaged by the bathroom sink.

Kay loved sports and was involved in the early years of Brock Minor Hockey, North Kamloops softball, Brownies, and Girl Guides.  She was always in the bleachers supporting her children and grandchildren, pacing back and forth when the score was tight. Her passion for sports endured until the end, with hospital staff teasing her for watching Sportsnet all day. She was also a long time Kamloops Blazers ticket holder and loved watching the Saskatchewan Rough Riders and the Toronto Blue Jays.

In 1985 her uncle, Lindo Giacomuzi, passed away, and Kay and Tony soon exchanged their working jobs for life on Lindo’s Campbell Creek ranch. They loved the fresh air and active lifestyle. In 1998, their new home was built in Knutsford, and Kay and Tony continued to run cattle, grow hay, and tend to a large vegetable garden into their late 80s. Her garden only grew as she aged and there was never a weed to be seen! Only after she turned 80 did Kay accept her role as supervisor and let others throw hay bales onto the trailer. Fiercely independent and hard working, Kay once told everyone the purchasers of the hay would put it in the barn the next day, only for the family to discover hours later than she’d put the hay away herself. She never complained, and her work ethic, compassion, and humour, along with skills and knowledge she passed on, will endure forever.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses in the Emergency Room, 7th floor of the Gaglardi Tower and Ponderosa for their amazing care of our Kay. In her own words, she said “I am running out of track.” Forever in our hearts, she will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at the Kamloops Funeral Home
