ELIZABETH “BETTY” HARRISON 1937 — 2022

ELIZABETH “BETTY” HARRISON

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Betty Harrison announce her passing, surrounded by her loving family at Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice House.

Left to mourn are her three children: Debbie, Audrey Harrison of Kamloops, son Rick (Liza) of Redwater, AB. Five grandchildren: Brandon Bishop (Alexandra), great granddaughter Eva of Quebec, Devon Bishop (Deanna), great granddaughter June of Kamloops, Travis Avramovic (Lindsay) of Okotoks, AB, Lindsay and Derek Harrison of Redwater, AB.

Predeceased by her husband Jim in August 2015 and grandson Connor Avramovic, September 2011.

Betty was born in Hazelton, BC and raised in Terrace, BC.

She met our father at a baseball game May long weekend in 1957, from there on, they became an “item”! They married November 1, 1958, the following September Debbie was born in Kamloops. Audrey was born in Terrace in 1964, followed 21 months later with the birth of Rick in Prince George.

Family meant the world to Mom, she was very proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Mom hosted many family dinners most often cooking a turkey followed by a fabulous dessert! There were always good treats and baking in Granny’s kitchen. Mom was a hard worker, and kept a beautiful home, cooking, baking, gardening and canning.

She worked in retail, then at Overlander Extendicare Hospital as an Activity Aide, until retirement. Mom and Dad loved to travel, taking many bus tours (she didn’t like flying) and cruises or getaways in the car to visit family and friends throughout British Columbia and Alberta.

She was a member of the Excelsior Rebekah Lodge 23 serving as their Chaplain and for a time, as their District Deputy President. She enjoyed her time as a Rebekah forging many lasting friendships.

Mom’s health deteriorated steadily in these last few months. She didn’t want to leave us, but knew she couldn’t stay. There will a big void in our family, we will miss her immensely.

We would like to thank first responders, the staff at Royal Inland Hospital Emergency Dept, 7 North, and the staff at Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice House, for their compassionate care of our Mother and Grandmother. A special thank you to family and friends who had her in their thoughts and prayers and to Minister LeAnn Blackert for making a special trip from Kelowna to see her – this meant the world to her.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Chapel at the Kamloops Funeral Home on Saturday, October 8th at 2:00pm with Reverend Emily Cooke Officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes to Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice House in Betty’s memory would be greatly appreciated.

ELDON (DARYL) SMEETON

Eldon (Daryl) Smeeton was a gentle, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He passed away peacefully on May 24, 2022 leaving his family with a lifetime of wonderful memories.

Daryl was predeceased by his parents Mildred and Ed, 10 of 11 siblings, his son, Brian and grandson, Devon. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 61 years, Sharon, son Ed (Antoniette) and daughter Deborah and brother Gord, grandchildren Daryl (Lindsey), Derrick (Jessica), Olivia (Shak) and Tyler and their father Jeff as well as Brian’s partner Coney, Great Grandchildren Liam, Saylor, Zirayah, Deacon and Savanna as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Daryl was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan February 21st 1940. He was the 7th of the 11 children. He met Sharon – the love of his life and best friend in 1954 and the two were together ever after. The two travelled throughout BC, Dawson City and to South America as they followed Daryl’s work. He was a winchman on the gold dredges. The family eventually settled in Kamloops, BC to continue raising their children. After their children were grown, Daryl and Sharon became foster parents to kids with special needs which brought them great joy before making the difficult decision to fully retire.

Daryl and Sharon were “snowbirds” and travelled to Arizona every winter for 3 years where they made many friends. In the summers they visited with their children and their families. Daryl’s favourite past time was spending time with Sharon. The two were near constant companions and never tired of each others company.

Daryl was deeply loved and a friend to all he met. No one ever had a bad word to say about him. He truly was a sweet man. He will be greatly missed by his family who were blessed beyond measure to have him as a partner, parent and grandparent.

The Smeeton family would like to thank Dr. Amanda Bosman, Interior Health Care Aides and the staff at Royal Inland Hospital who provided exceptional care under difficult circumstances.

In lieu of flowers donations in Daryl’s name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or in support of Dementia and Alzheimer’s research would be gratefully appreciated.

CARLA ELSIENA CATHARINA CURTIS 1955 — 2022

CARLA ELSIENA CATHARINA CURTIS

Our precious mother passed away peacefully on the morning of May 25th.  Carla was a woman of faith who trusted and loved Jesus with all of her heart.  While we feel profound sadness, we have peace and joy in knowing that God makes all things new and she is now in the presence of her loving Saviour Jesus Christ.  One day we will see her again and worship the King together forever.

Rev 21:4 (NLT) He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.

Carla was very proud of her Dutch heritage and was the first of her siblings born in Canada.  She grew up in a small town near Brockville, Ontario.  As a child, her and her family enjoyed travelling and swimming in southern Ontario lakes.  Carla moved to Toronto to start her career as an office worker.  She took an opportunity to work in Calgary, where she met her husband Ralph.  They fell in love and chose to make their home in Western Canada.  The Lord blessed their 40-year marriage with 3 sons, 1 daughter, and 7 grandchildren.

Carla leaves behind her loving husband Ralph Curtis, children Craig (Elaine) Curtis of Calgary, Alberta, Michelle (Kevin) Mayer of Grand Prairie, Alberta, Dave (Priscila Sousa-Curtis) Curtis of Mission, British Columbia, Ryan Curtis of Kamloops, British Columbia, grand children Rebecca (Craig & Elaine) Curtis, Jack, Ella, Hannah & William (Michelle & Kevin) Mayer, Enzo & Olivia (Dave Curtis & Priscila Sousa-Curtis), mother Coby Stam of Brampton, Ontario, Charles & Harriette Stam of Ramera, Ontario, Keith Stam & Karen Ptolmey-Stam of Penetanguishene, Ontario, Maurice & Mary Anne Stam of Brighton, Ontario and Arlene & Jake Brunsting of Nepean, Ontario. Carla is predeceased by her father Jack Stam.

She shared her legacy of faith with her family through encouragement and prayer.

In Kamloops, Mom enjoyed attending Blazer hockey games, sharing a laugh with friends over coffee, studying the Bible with her friends, and travelling to visit with her kids and grandkids.  One of her favourite past times was crafting.  She cross-stitched many beautiful pictures and crocheted blankets that she loved giving away to family and friends.

We have enjoyed many fun times together as a family and it won’t be the same without her.  We take comfort in knowing that she is enjoying her new body in Heaven in the presence of God.

A special thank you to the caring nurses, doctors and staff at the Royal Inland Hospital. Donations gratefully accepted in memory of Carla to The Mustard Seed of Kamloops.

Anyone wishing to spend time with Carla can do so starting at 9:30am on Saturday prior to the Funeral Service that will be held on Saturday, June 11 at 11am in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Phil Ward officiating.

JOHN “JACK” ADAMS 1932 — 2022

JOHN “JACK” ADAMS

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm at the home of Wayne & Shenny Robinson in Kamloops, BC.

John (Jack) Adams passed away in the early morning hours of May 20th, 2022. It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of a giant of a man.

As a resident of Cranbrook for many years, he worked and raised his family and loved only one woman, our Mom. He leaves behind a proud family. His son Terry (Bonnie) daughters Tina (Miki) & Shenny (Wayne), 6 grand children, 11 great-grand children, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

He worked with Kennelly Contracting, learning and perfecting many skills. He helped to lay the first gas lines in Cranbrook and the surrounding area. He ran a hoe and as he soon became supervisor, he would tell us; “never let a man do a job you wouldn’t do yourself”. As a result, you always found him working in deep holes with his crew.

He played a guitar, entertained many friends and family over the years, and was still picking and playing just days before he left us. He was adventurous and during his retirement he and Mom moved from Cranbrook to Chilliwack, where they enjoyed lake living in their 5th wheel. Later they moved to Williams Lake to help raise grandchildren and to be close to their family. From there, they moved to Kamloops where they kept busy with grand children, friends, family, fishing, boating and gardening.

Dad was a Golden Glove Boxer and held the trophy for his weight class in British Columbia and Alberta for many years. He was so strong he could lift a man twice his size by grabbing their belt with his teeth and lift them off the floor. It Created many humorous moments.

He joined the Maverick Riding club for his kids. Mom worked the concession and Dad helped with horses. There was always activity for the entire family.

He was avid hunter, enjoyed the game of pool and was a kind and generous man. He was predeceased by his parents George and Amy, 2 Brothers, Mel and Merle and 1 sister Eileen.

It’s been a great life. Until we meet again!
