December 17, 1925 ~ June 23, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert William Black of Oxbow, Saskatchewan. Robert is survived by sisters Jean Smith and Margaret Sanders, his two daughters Donna (Gerry) and Cathy (Carl), four grandchildren Leslie, Nicole, Shaylyn and Corey, as well as niece and nephews Marg, Chris and Bob Smith. Robert was predeceased by his loving wife Aileen, sister Barbara, brothers Frank, Norman and Nathan as well as nephew Dave Smith. Born into a family of seven, he will also be remembered by many more cousins and family members. Dad farmed the prairies in Gilbert Plains and Grandview, Manitoba for years before enlisting in the army in October of 1943. He served his country in Belgium and Holland during WWII and was later a proud member of the Gilbert Plains Legion and Elks Canada.
In 1966, Robert and Aileen moved to Kamloops, BC with their children and then built their family home in Westsyde in 1969. Dad worked in construction and a saw mill in Monty Lake called the RW Black Ranch (which always gave him a chuckle). Dad later worked for the school board until he and Mom chose to retire happily together. You could often find Dad perched at the Westsyder for a coffee and game of keno. Dad also lived for his annual summer trips to Manitoba. Looking forward to summers back on the prairies always lifted his spirit. Dad loved animals and he found great joy after adopting a cat, Noël, that wouldn’t leave his side from the SPCA in December. Many thanks to the great staff at Royal Inland Hospital as well as Barb and Bob for helping make his Manitoba dream come true each summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the SPCA or Heart and Stroke Foundation. A memorial service will be held on July 3, 2015 at 1pm in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel, 285 Fortune Drive.
We love you Dad, say hi to Mom from all of us.
A wonderful Dad laid to rest
For each of us he did his best
His place on earth no one can fill
We miss you Dad and always will
Although we smile and make no fuss
No one misses you more than us.

I just heard about Robert passing. I’m very sorry. I used to see Bob at Cooper’s every so often. We worked together at the school board and had many amusing moments. Robert was a good guy and will be missed.
