October 19, 1935 ~ March 1, 2015
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Hohm, unexpectedly, after a short illness in Kamloops on March 1, 2015. Shirley was born in Walsall, England but was brought to Canada as an infant in 1936. She is predeceased by her loving adoptive parents, William and Julia Bird, whom she adored and has missed greatly. Throughout her life, she was known as “Carole,” being raised and spending nearly her entire life in Vancouver. Carol’s passing will be mourned by her husband Alfred, her sons Michael (Christine), Steven (Shirley), and David (Debbie), and her daughter Julie Ann (Phil Maier). Carole fondly treasured her grandchildren, Vicki , Laurie, Carly, Doug, Dylan, Keenan, Sarah and Dakota. She was especially proud to be the Great Grandmother to the newest addition to our family, Bianca. Carole is also survived by her sister June in Calgary, sisters Jill and Margaret and brother Gerald in England. Carole was noted for her passion for skating, music, and all things British. She was especially fond of cats and all the other “furry animals.” The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care she received at the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops and suggest that, in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation. A Memorial Remembrance of her life is being planned to be held in Vancouver, about the middle of April.
One Tribute
I am so sorry to read of the passing of Mrs. Hohm.
Growing up I remember how the Hohm household felt like a second home to me.
Mrs. Hohm watching Sunday British Theatre with all of us boys being terrors.
I will never forget those days and I often look back fondly of the times I spent in the presence of such a lovely lady.
My condolences to Mr. Holm, Michael, Steven, David and Julie.
Sincerely,
Wayne
