Shirley Iona Brown ( née Baumung) 1932 — 2017

Shirley Iona Brown ( née Baumung)

Shirley was born in Canora, Saskatchewan to loving parents Fred and Milly Baumumg.

Shirley graduated from Yorkton Collegiate Institute in 1948, at a young age of 16.  She attended teachers college briefly in Regina then moved to  Kamsack to work as a telephone operator, where she was introduced to her future husband Chuck by his sister and coworker Doreen.  Chuck and Shirley were married on Sept. 26th  1950.  Two beautiful children came soon after, son Warren Bradley Brown  and Carla Kim Brown.  The family moved to Melville and then on to Regina so that Shirley could continue her education to become a teacher.  Shirley taught high school in Melville and in Saskatoon transferring to Kelsey Institute  to teach adult education in 1968.  Shirley taught at Kelsey for many years leaving her Administrative position when they moved to Kamloops in 1978. Shirley continued her career working as a department head at the Cariboo College where she retired in 1987.

After retirement Chuck and Shirley spent winters traveling down to Mexico .  They fell in love with Cabos San Lucas where for the next 30 years they spent their winters, returning to Kamloops to their wonderful home and yard for the summers. Shirley was a gracious host, marvelous cook and homemaker. She embraced technology and used this means to keep in daily contact with her many friends and loving family. Shirley was a continual learner and kept up with current issues. She always provided stimulating conversation and relevant view points regarding any topic her Grandchildren, Children and Friends brought up.   These chats will be greatly missed by many.

After struggling with health issues for the past few months, Shirley passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving husband and her children in Kamloops, on April 17, 2017 at the age of 83.
