December 31, 1939 – September 28, 2025
Turid Holteberg Milton passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025, with her children at her side, at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, B.C. She was 85.
Born in Trondheim, Norway, months before the German invasion, the family moved to a relative’s farm outside the city—six years that deeply shaped her life. A determined and capable student, she later earned her medical degree in Heidelberg, Germany, and went on to work as a doctor in Tanzania, where she met her former husband, David Milton.
They relocated to Aberdovey, Wales, where their children, Erik and Sarah, were born. In 1974, the family moved to Norway, where she continued to practice medicine—first in Hammerfest in the far Arctic north, and later in the small island town of Sandnessjøen in central Norway. In 1980, they immigrated to Canada—a place that immediately felt like home. After stints in the Okanagan and the prairies, Turid settled in Clearwater in the mid-1990s, a place she grew to love deeply—for family, friends, and acquaintances; for the landscapes, seasons, and nature; to pursue her hobbies; and to finally, and unmovingly, call a place home.
Her life journey carried her across continents and climates—from wartime Norway to the savannahs of Africa, the pastoral landscapes of the North Okanagan, the wide skies of the Canadian prairie, and even the busy streets of Taiwan. Through it all, she remained a voracious reader, independent, quietly courageous, adventurous, kind, and accepting—always with a greeting smile to warm your heart.
Turid is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sarah Rorem; son, Erik Milton; grandson, Tieran; Tieran’s mother, Gabrielle Kind; In Norway – her sister Anne, her nieces Ingrid, Søss and Mette and their families; and her many dear friends—especially among her fibre arts community. Mom lived a full and vibrant life—she will be intensely missed, and carried in our hearts and minds always. All the best on your new journey Mom, until we meet again….
We would like to extend our gratitude to staff at RIH, especially Doctors Afshar and Malebranche, nurses Jen and Gaby, and care aide Evette, for their compassion, humanity, and professional conduct extending well beyond their duties.
Also to 52 Ridge for offering their facility to host Mom’s Celebration of Life—to be held Sunday Nov. 9th at 14:30 (ending at 16:30).
Condolences may be sent to the family at

Turid has been a dear friend to me for about 30yrs. I will so miss our lively discussions, enjoying music together, sharing books and food, and especially I will miss the laughter we shared so often. It felt as if there was really no age gap between us. Turid was my buddy and I look forward to seeing her again on “the other side of the thin veil” in the future……
