February 13, 1965 – June 3, 2025
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Wilfred Duncan, who left us on June 3, 2025, at the age of 60, at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC, residing in Ashcroft BC Primarily before passing.
Born on February 13, 1965, in Ashcroft, BC, Wilfred was a proud member of the Stswécemc Xget’tem First Nation.
After surviving residential school Wilfred grew up in/near the Canoe Creek area, where he developed the resilience, strength, and independence that carried him through life. He created strong connections wherever he went in life including Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews, at times complete strangers. He always had a helping hand for anyone who asked for it, even if it left him with nothing.
In his youth, Wilfred met Anita “Barbara” Duncan, and together they shared a whirlwind romance and marriage that led to the creation of a family. Though they later went their separate ways, Wilfred always held deep respect and love for Barbara.
A skilled mechanic by trade, Wilfred also spent time as a wildfire firefighter, showing bravery and dedication in service to his community and province. Among many talents he seemed to know a little bit of everything. He was a man of many layers-tough and private, yet full of life and a good heart.
Wilfred faced his share of struggles, especially from early life experiences, but he loved deeply, especially his family.
Wilfred was predeceased by his parents, Mabel Sarah Duncan (Jakey) and William Duncan, and his stepfather Johnny “Pops” Grinder, and his siblings John Francis “Jacky” Duncan, Dorothy Johnson, Richard Duncan Sr., and Patrick Johnson.
He is survived by his children, John Duncan and Nichole Duncan, and his siblings Rosemary Johnson, William “Willyboy” Duncan, Louie Duncan, and Norman Dick, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and extended family.
Though he may have lived apart from those who loved and cared for him, Wilfred’s journey was his own, guided by independence and shaped by the belief that distance was sometimes necessary.
Wilfred’s spirit, strength, and memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The Funeral Service will be held in the Kamloops Funeral Home at 285 Fortune Drive on Saturday, June 21, 2025. A viewing will take place at 1:30pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:30pm. A reception will be held shortly after.
