James Yule MacPherson, son of James MacPherson and Louie Huggins, was born in Wells, BC, on July 11, 1941. He passed away in Kamloops, BC, at Hospice on June 24, 2025, after a week of loving care for he and his family.
Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years Hilda (nee Morrow), daughters Lisa and Tracey, brother John and many nieces and nephews.
While attending his high school years in Merritt, BC, he stood out for his academic and athletic achievements.
Jim served for 30 years with the Canadian Armed Forces after graduating from RMC with a science degree in 1964. Jim reached the rank of Lieutenant Commander. His role was logistic officer.
Jim retired in 1990, relocating to Kamloops BC where he became involved in serving his new community. Jim volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, building 3 duplexes, often working 6 days a week. Jim also served on the executive of the Federal Superannuates National Association first as treasurer then as president. Jim also acted as president of his condominium council.
After enjoying baseball and basketball in his youth, Jim curled, lawn bowled and walked to keep fit. His favorite walk was in Peterson Creek Park which he affectionately called “the Pillars of Hercules”.
Jim was an active father, a loving husband and supportive friend. He was a great cook; his children fondly remember the years of nutmeg.
Jim’s annual Christmas letter was looked forward to with great anticipation by family and friends. Jim was well read never neglected reading on many different topics . The only question that stumped him was “Do birds have ears?”
There will be no service. Jim’s ashes will be interred with his parents in Merritt at a later date.
Special thanks to Dr. J. Morrow, Andre and Diane Morin, Edie Pletzer, Bob and Christine Gamble, Jane Dupuis for their support during Jim’s illness.
Donations to Kamloops Hospice in his name will be greatly appreciated.

I’m so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. He will be missed by family and all the places he volunteered at. Lots of fond memories by all who knew him.
deepest sympathy jim was a smart kind man lived next door to him in valley view.
So sorry to hear about Jim’s passing Hilda. He was always a‘ a ‘special guy’, wonderful dry sense of humour, great laugh, enjoyed life. I feel fortunate to have known him.
The phrase ‘salt of the earth’ was written for Jim. You could not have met a better man. I served as Jim’s Deputy Logistics Officer on HMCS Provider. He was the best boss ever.
I still remember one day when we were visiting San Diego, One afternoon, Jim came waltzing into the wardroom with two of the ugliest, hugest vases that you have ever seen. Bright red with yellow dragons and assorted multicoloured creatures His eyes sparkled as he said “Look what I found for Hilda!”
Although we didn’t see Hilda and Jim often after I left the Navy we did keep in touch mainly through his Christmas letter which always elicited some humorous email exchanges.
I loved the man.
I will miss him.

Oh Hilda, I’m so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. He will be missed by many people but especially by you and your daughters. My heart is with you
We were extremely saddened to hear of the passing of our long time friend, Jim.
Although our paths had not crossed in many years, the memories of our close friendship with Jim and Hilda in Victoria and Ottawa are still vivid.
Jim (Maj) was a solid mentor to Rod during his early days in the Armed Forces. We remember the many dinners shared at Hilda and Jim’s and at Chez Normande.
Some of the memories may have been blurred due to the over indulgence of the grape and scotch but nonetheless these memories are deeply cherished.
We wish to send our condolences to Hilda, Tracy and Lisa.
Along with Jim, we will keep them all in our prayers.
