Leo passed away peacefully in Kamloops on May 22, 2017 surrounded by his family. Leo was born on January 19, 1930 in Leonburg, Poland to Bertha and Reinholt Schmidt; he was one of eight children: Hilda, Bruno, Traute, Leona, Paul, Loetre and Horst. He grew up on a family farm and worked as a carpenter. In 1956, he married Inge Krause and immigrated to Canada the following year, settling in Kamloops. Together they had three children: Günter (Susanne), Rita (Darren) and Monica (Leon), along with seven grandchildren: Kia, Erik, Roland, Quinn, Tristan, Jared and Liam. Leo worked for Agriculture Canada for 33 years, as well as at various other jobs and built their family home. Leo loved fishing, gardening, wrestling, camping, dancing and getting together with family.
He was predeceased by his wife Inge (1998) and son Günter (2002). Leo married a longtime friend Margo Woloski in 2003 and grew his family with the addition of Joan (Alan), Mark (Sandra), Jacquie (Jamie) and Michele (Terry) and grandchildren Kimberly, Bryn and Indigo; with whom he enjoyed his remaining years.
As requested by Leo, a funeral service will not take place, but a memorial will be held by his family in his name at a later date (to be announced).

Thinking of you all, and remembering the good times we have shared.

Monica: I read with sadness of your dad’s passing. I have such fond memories of him and your mom. Funny too because we were just talking about him the other day. My heart goes out to you and the grandkids, Leo was such a good guy.
