It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Glen Thio Watts announce his passing on January 9, 2021 at his home in Sun Peaks, Kamloops BC.

Michael was born in Winnipeg Manitoba on March 28, 1981 living his infancy in Coral Harbour NWT, preschool years in Fort St John and elementary through high school years in Prince George BC, graduating at PGSS. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Alberta followed by a gratifying engineering career in northern AB & BC and many years travelling internationally. He recently graduated with a Masters Degree in Business at Thompson River University in April 2019. Michael’s passions included world travel, fishing, hiking, boating and family time at Bednesti Lake cabin. His love for down-hill skiing led him to reside at Sun Peaks Mountain ski resort. Michael is survived by his father Glen Watts (Peggy) of Sherwood Park AB, his mother Marlene Thio-Watts, sister Janet McLean (Ryan), nephew Jack, niece Peyton, his Grandmother Gladys Thio of Langley BC and a large extended family.

On Sunday, January 17, 2021, Jeff Kayne, loving husband and father of two, passed away suddenly at home at the age of 69. Jeff was born June 13, 1951 in Vancouver, BC to Harold and Connie Kayne. He was part of a military family and lived all across Canada and in Germany for four years. He met his wife, Kerrie, in Tauranga, NZ, and married in New Westminster, BC on February 21, 1987. They raised two sons, Fraser and Gabriel.

For Jeff, working with his hands is what he loved most. There was always an aspect of the house that he felt he could fix or improve. He shared decades of knowledge in home improvement that was greatly admired by friends and family. He was a frequent source of advice for many neighbours and was extremely generous with his time. Being a relatively private person he liked to spend most of his time in the workshop tinkering on projects. Other pursuits he enjoyed were traveling, gardening, political discussions, music and old movies. He was known for his easy going nature, positive attitude and patience with others.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Harold, his mother, Connie, and his brother, Jim. He is survived by his wife, Kerrie, his two children, Fraser and Gabriel, his sister, Lori, and her partner, John. He will always be remembered by his extended family in New Zealand.

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of father and husband Don Powell, January 12, 2021. 

Dad was born in Goderich, Ontario and he and mom (Wilma) moved to BC in 1957 to start their newly married life.  Sadly Mom passed away in 1984 and Dad met Helen Samila in 1987.

Dad is survived by his two daughters Betty-Lou (Gary) Ohashi, Linda Fowles (Nick Decicco), Steve Fowles and of course Helen.  He is also survived by his three grandsons Gregory Ohashi (Robbie), Jason Fowles and Justin (Chelsea) Fowles as well as Helen’s children Nadine, Brian, Dave, Dean and their children.  Don is survived too by his brothers Graham (Brenda), Gene (Rita) and his sister Muriel McGuire along with several nieces and nephews.  Dad was predeceased by his sisters Marion Covey and Marg Norris and by his brother Gordon. 

Dad began his career on the oil tankers in Ontario.  He continued working in the oil industry in BC for many years where he worked at the oil refinery here in Kamloops until 1995 when he retired from the distribution terminal.

Next to his family the outdoors was Dad’s passion.  Often accompanied by Helen’s grandchildren Jake, Cassidy and Payton, Dad and Helen could be found on any lake in BC sharing their love of the outdoors and fishing with the kids.  Coupled with a few ‘cold ones’ if there was a fish to be found Dad was determined to find it not caring about the number of hours spent to do so.  When Dad wasn’t fishing he enjoyed ‘monkey-wrenching’ with either his brother Graham or son-in-law Gary.  There wasn’t much Dad couldn’t fix or at least try his best to fix.  We will miss our “Mr. Fix-it” also know as our Dad, dearly.

Due to the restrictions of COVID in place, there will be no service at this time – it is our hope we can hold a service for Dad later in the spring.

 In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations are made to the Royal Inland Hospital in Dad’s memory.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Douglas (Doug) Rhodes on December 24, 2020 at the age of 70.

Doug was born in Regina, Sask. in 1950 to Richard and Margaret (Alice) Rhodes.  He had two siblings, David and Margaret.  He spent his younger years in Regina graduating from Belfour Tech before his family moved to Cranbrook, B.C. where his parents owned and operated the local Dairy Queen.  He enjoyed martial arts and playing the drums. He also met his good friend and mother to his 3 children before they moved to Vancouver Island where he learned the trade of locksmithing and eventually moved to Kamloops where he lived for almost 40 years.

Doug was a very gentle and kind hearted man who was loved by many. He enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to music and going for coffee with friends.

Doug was predeceased by his brother David and his parents Richard and Alice Rhodes. Left to cherish his memory are his sister Margaret Lund (Tony Lund, Jamie, Amanda and Jenna), and his three children, Steven Rhodes (Ellen Rhodes), Thomas Rhodes, and Victoria Rhodes (Jeff McBride), as well as six grandchildren (Haylie’Lyn, Kaytlin, Douglas, Atilla, Tala and Maya) as well as all his nieces and nephews.

As requested, Doug was cremated and will be interred with his brother in Cranbrook at a time to be determined later.

It is with incredible sadness that we announce the passing of a loving son, brother, and father, Ellis Jamrich. He was taken from us suddenly in early January 2021 at the age of 58.

Ellis’s pride and joy was his beautiful daughter, Jana.  He was loved by his entire family, parents Jim and Rose, siblings Julie and Cory (Lisa), his nephew Dryden, and nieces Lexi and Brit. Ellis had a heart of gold and a smile that could light up a room.  He was always telling jokes and thinking  of others, whether that meant tending to his neighbours or giving a stranger a hand.  He loved the ‘elderly’ as he never considered himself ‘old’ and he cared about anyone that crossed paths with him. While we could go on for ages about Ellis, we would like to leave the stories for when we have a celebration of life, which we’re aiming for in late spring or early summer 2021. Until then, please raise a glass and do a ‘cheers’ for Ellis in his honour. We would like to thank our extended family and many good friends for reaching out to us during this very difficult time. It has meant the world to our family. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to donate to the charity of your choice.
