Thomas Albert Broad 1934 — 2020

Thomas Albert Broad

Thomas Albert Broad of Kamloops, BC passed on July 21, 2020 at the age of 84. He is survived by his loving wife Glady Ann Broad and his children James (spouse Patricia) Broad, Peggy-Jo Broad, and Thomas (spouse Candace) Broad. He will be greatly missed by his grand children Carrie-Lynn Davies, Michael Davies, Lyrae Broad, Zan Broad, Jacqueline Broad, Karlie Broad, and Kassandra Broad. Thomas was also dearly loved by his many great grand children Brodie Campbell, Kacia Campbell, Mathew Hall, Isobel Hall, Ava Alcock, Lexi Alcock, Nyah Alcock, Tayven Alcock, and Addilyne Broad. Thomas was pre-deceased by his daughter Kathy-Jo Davies and his brother John Broad.

Tom was born in Toronto Ontario in 1934 and was raised in the town of Dunnville Ontario.  In 1971 he made the bold move to start his career as a millwright in Port Alice, BC.  He was always a hard working man who helped others and while living on Vancouver Island he volunteered as a fireman and began his involvement with the PPWC. After leaving Port Alice the family moved to Robert’s Creek on the Sunshine Coast. After a short time on the Sunshine Coast Tom moved to Kamloops in 1976.  He began working at the local Weyerhaeuser pulp mill where he worked until his retirement.

Tom enjoyed many hobbies such as building and fixing items in his shop, hunting, fishing, and growing his prized tomatoes. Whenever anyone popped by one of the first things he would often say was “so, what’s happenin’ in the world today?”, he could never start his day without checking the weather channel, and Monday coffee days with the “old boys” was his favorite day of the week. He had many nick names like “Mr. Hose” since he always had a garden hose in his hands, “Mr. Level and Square” because everything had to be built and arranged just so, and of course when he was shooting he was known as “Homer Hipshot” seeing as all of his grand kids and great grand kids knew him as Poppa Homer. He was greatly loved by many people in this world and he was truly a character that will be sorely missed by all.

A Graveside service will be held for family and extended family at 11 am on Thursday July 30th at Hillside Cemetery with Steven Hare officiating.  A small drop-in gathering will be held for friends and family after the service at 1:30 pm at 227 Walnut Ave. and memorial donations may be made to any of the following: Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lung Association, or the Kidney Foundation.

Thank-you on behalf of the entire family to everyone that was a part of Tom’s health care team that tried to make his time here as comfortable as possible.

He was predeceased by his parents George and Annie Ritter; his sisters Helen, Edna, Eileen, Gladys, and Claudia; and brothers Roy, Gordon, and Eugene.

Clarence was the fifth of 13 children, born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1930. He settled in Kamloops in the late 1960s, working as a service technician for Interior Office Equipment until his retirement in 1985. He had many interests in his spare time, including falconry, photography, and scuba diving. But his favourite activity was skydiving. He was an early member of the Kamloops Sports Parachute Club, winning several awards and in competitions across BC and Canada.

Thoughtful and kind, a loving husband and provider, Clarence married Carmelita in 1973 and they began raising a family together. We will treasure those memories, always.

Rest in peace, Clarence.

The family would like to thank Dr. Wynne and Dr. Kip; and all the care aides, nurses, and staff of The Hamlets who took special care of Clarence in his final years.

WILLIAM LLOYD (“Lloyd”) FUNNELL 1920 — 2020

WILLIAM LLOYD (“Lloyd”) FUNNELL

October 8, 1920 – June 16, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lloyd at Royal Inland Hospital while recovering from hip surgery due to a fall.  While on the home stretch to his 100th birthday, the Lord called Lloyd home on June 16, 2020.

Born in Minnedosa, Manitoba to parents, Bill & Mae Funnell, and the 2nd youngest of four boys.  He was raised on the farm, attending the district’s one room school house until Grade 8, when he began work to help support the family due to the hardship of the depression.  Lloyd enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army, Artillery Unit, in 1941 in WWII, served in England Coastal Defence, N.W. European Campaign, and the D-Day landing at Juno Beach on June 6, 1944.  After returning to Canada in 1946, he returned to the family farm.

Lloyd married Norma in 1951, and shortly after headed to BC seeking work opportunities.  They had two daughters, Lynne born in Williams Lake & Lois born in Quesnel.  The family had to return to Manitoba in 1954 to operate the general store in Onanole, MB owned by Lloyd’s father-in-law, who passed away.  His employment in construction began in 1957 in the Zinc Plant of Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting in Flin Flon, MB, 1965 to 67 at the potash plant in Esterhazy, SK, 1967 to 69 in the tar sands of Fort McMurray, AB.  While in Alberta, in his late 40s, he studied and obtained his Millwright Certificate.  In June of 1969 the family moved to Kamloops, BC where Lloyd’s work included the Mica Dam Project in Revelstoke, co-owner of a Pool company, a home building company, and various home renovations.  He was a hard worker, and was going strong into his 80s.

His passion was game hunting, & early morning coffee at A&W or MacDonalds with his buddies, but church life was priority to Lloyd.  He was one of the original members of Bible Truth Church at its beginning in the Summer of 1975.  He loved to talk about the Word of God.

A highlight for Lloyd was when he travelled to France in June of 2004 to be a part of the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of D-Day.  As a Veteran he was highly honoured by the French citizens.  This was a very moving experience for him.  As of January 27th 2020 Lloyd was awarded the rank of Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour (the highest national order of France), by order of the President of the Republic of France, in recognition of his personal involvement in the liberation of France during WWII, together with an insignia he could proudly wear.

Predeceased by his parents, Bill & Mae, wife, Norma, brothers, Frank, Leonard & Lance, sisters-in-law, Margaret, Mary & Betty, & his nephew, Robert (“Bob”).  Lloyd is survived by his daughters, Lynne (Joe) & Lois, his grandsons, Nathan & Tim, his nephews & nieces, and many friends.

Sincere appreciation to Art & Elsie Thiessen of Lilac Manor, & Shannon, for their exceptional and loving care of Lloyd since March of 2019, accepting him into the home as “family”.  The Lord Bless You!

A special thank you to Dr. Dusik and the nursing staff on 6N for their care of Lloyd & communication with our family in his final days.

Due to the current pandemic, there was a Graveside service for the family on June 22nd, 2020, and a Celebration of Life will be live-streamed on YouTube, BTC-YouTube Channel, on Saturday, June 27th at 1:00 p.m. for all who wish to join us virtually.
