Mitsuko “Mits” Kuroyama (nee Kato) 1930 — 2015

Mitsuko “Mits” Kuroyama (nee Kato)

January 5th, 1930 – March 12th, 2015

Mitsuko “Mits” Kuroyama (Kato), passed away peacefully on March 12th, 2015 with her family by her side.

Mits was born January 5th, 1930, in Royston/Cumberland, British Columbia where she lived with her family until they were relocated to an internment camp at Tashme during World War II. After the war her family moved to North Kamloops where she met Arnie and they were married 1951. Mits was a long time employee of Safety Mart Foods until her retirement. Throughout the years she enjoyed softball, bowling, curling and golfing. She particularly loved golfing with her sisters and friends at the Kamloops Golf and Country Club. She continued to golf until she was 80. Although she enjoyed her sports her first love was her large extended family as well as being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family is what made her genuinely happy.

Mits was a kind gentle soul, was generous to a fault, and had a delightful dry witty sense of humour that never failed to make one smile. She will be sadly missed.Read More & Leave Condolences »

Shirley “Carole” Ann Hohm 1935 — 2015

Shirley “Carole” Ann Hohm

 October 19, 1935 ~ March 1, 2015

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Hohm, unexpectedly, after a short illness in Kamloops on March 1, 2015. Shirley was born in Walsall, England but was brought to Canada as an infant in 1936. She is predeceased by her loving adoptive parents, William and Julia Bird, whom she adored and has missed greatly. Throughout her life, she was known as “Carole,” being raised and spending nearly her entire life in Vancouver. Carol’s passing will be mourned by her husband Alfred, her sons Michael (Christine), Steven (Shirley), and David (Debbie), and her daughter Julie Ann (Phil Maier). Carole fondly treasured her grandchildren, Vicki , Laurie, Carly, Doug, Dylan, Keenan, Sarah and Dakota. She was especially proud to be the Great Grandmother to the newest addition to our family, Bianca. Carole is also survived by her sister June in Calgary, sisters Jill and Margaret and brother Gerald in England.  Carole was noted for her passion for skating, music, and all things British. She was especially fond of cats and all the other “furry animals.” The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care she received at the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops and suggest that, in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation. A Memorial Remembrance of her life is being planned to be held in Vancouver, about the middle of April.
