It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving Father and beloved Grandfather, Carl Stefanik of Kamloops on June 26, 2022 the age of 88 years.

Carl will always be lovingly remembered by his family; daughters Susan Gobbee (Jerry), and Marianne Stefanik of Kamloops, grandchildren Joseph (Cass) Gobbee, Jason (Chantelle) Gobbee, Justin (Tara) Gobbee and Jaime Laplante of the Kamloops area;  great grandchildren Maya, Jacob, Taylynn, Gavin, Keaton, Kiara and Harper Gobbee; brothers John of Vernon and Bob of Terrace, sisters Agnes Kern of Brampton, ON, Ann Halicki of Vancouver and Irene Willman of Langley; brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Carl was predeceased by his loving wife Patricia of nearly 58 years, their son David Stefanik and Carl’s brothers Steve and Nick Stefanik.

Carl was one of eight children born to Nick Stefanik who immigrated from Czechoslovakia in approximately 1928 with his wife Agnes Stefanik and their eldest son Steve in approximately in 1930.

Carl was born on March 19, 1934 in Gainford, AB, growing up on a farm. He did many farm jobs as well those of faller, skidding logs with horses, and later meeting his future wife Patricia, while driving taxi with Patricia having been the dispatcher.

Carl worked at Valley Concrete in Mission Flats for approximately 20 years. He went onto work for CNR from 1981 – 1990 when he officially retired but kept busy doing odd jobs, as keeping busy was a must for Carl.

He loved active sports, playing on softball, hockey and bowling leagues. Carl also enjoyed tennis, pool and his weekly poker games with his friends, but Carl’s main love was for the game of golf.

Carl’s other interests were in his vegetable garden (which he offered to family and friends) and self-taught wood working projects. He built many projects over the years for his family and friends.  Carl taught a lot to his children and grandchildren about doing the job right. There wasn’t anything he could not build.

Many thanks to Trinity Hospice for their warm support through the last days.

DAD taught his children and grandkids many valuable lessons throughout the years, about the value of family and working hard. “Same here.”

We want to thank Dad for making sure we tried our best and that he was a strong pillar in our family.

Yvonne was born in Wauchope, SK on August 15, 1936 and passed away peacefully on July 23, 2022 in Merritt, BC. She was predeceased by her loving husband Elber, who has been patiently awaiting to have her by his side along with two of their daughters, Toni and Lisette, whom they tragically lost. Yvonne leaves behind two sons, Mike (Lynn) and Kelly and two daughters, Giselle and Loree (Jack). Outliving her twin brothers Jack (Wendy) and Bob (Lynda), she leaves behind her sister Diane (John).

Mom was a keen homemaker and talented seamstress. She loved to laugh and Pa supplied the funnies.

Heartfelt thanks for the care and kindness Dr. Goetz provided throughout her final years. Thank you too, Gillis House staff for their attention and compassion, along with Interior Health.

There will be a private memorial for both Mom and Dad at a later date. Please consider a donation to the BC Cancer Society or a charity dear to you.

Marie Messmer, 96 years old, passed away in her family home on July 19, 2022. She was born in Ashcroft BC on April 18, 1926 to parents David “Sonny” and Alice McConnell. She is preceded in death by her husband Earl Messmer and daughter in-law Corinne Messmer. Marie is survived by her children and their spouses, Mitchell Messmer and Patty Thomson, Dean and Nikki Messmer, Arlen Messmer and Lorraine Lepine, Andrea and Jeff Delwo, and Linda Messmer; grandchildren Ayren, Amber, Nicolas, Sidney and Branden Messmer.

Marie was an avid gardener, maintaining a beautiful yard and veggie garden while raising her children and working full time for various garden shops in Kamloops.

A special thanks to Sandra Fuoco for the last 10 years, allowing Mom to be able to stay in her family home.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date.

With broken hearts we announce that Elizabeth (Betty) Palmer passed away in Kamloops, BC.  She was predeceased by her two husbands David Laidler and Donald Palmer, daughter Grace Wolkosky, her only sibling Bill Moffat and her grandson Jessee Palmer.  All of them will be awaiting her arrival with their dancing shoes on.

Mom was born in North Vancouver November 17, 1925 to parents William and Grace Moffat (nee Wilson).  She and her younger brother Bill grew up among the natural beauty of Lynn Valley.  She loved to share her memories of riding her horse through the river valley.  Following the death of her mother in 1948 she moved to Victoria where she met and married David.  Together they would have 5 children until his passing in 1963.  Mother was blessed in meeting Don a few years later, who not only fell in love with her and became a loving stepdad to her 5 children following their marriage in 1966.  From this union her last child Kenneth was born.  Following Don’s retirement from the navy in 1972 they moved to Edmonton where Don started a new job with the Federal Government.  They made many lifetime friends while living there.  In 1987 they returned to Vancouver Island to live out their retirement years in a large house in Sooke where they hosted many joyous gatherings of family and friends.   Following Don’s death in 1999 Betty moved back to familiar grounds in Esquimalt and lived there until the passing of Grace in 2007.   Later that year she relocated to Kamloops to be closer to her surviving daughter Carmen.

Betty was gregarious and embraced the social opportunities of her new surroundings.  She loved to dance, starting as a little girl with the Vancouver Ballet Company and we have great childhood memories of her dancing in the kitchen.   Four months after recovering from broken hip surgery in 2017 she danced the night away at her grandson’s wedding.  She joined the ladies Red Hats social group and loved participating in their many fun events.  Moving to Berwick On The Park retirement home in 2017 opened up more social activities for her and she maintained a robust schedule throughout her 90’s.

She leaves behind her 5 living children, Robert (Sharman), Donald (Cathy), John (Shelly), Carmen (James), Kenneth (Tina), 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Yvonne Moffat in Halifax and her children William, Robert and Anne-Marie.    Also left to mourn is her “second family,” the Watling sisters in Victoria who loved Betty like an aunt.  She was blessed in her later years with many friends and loved ones, providing her a wonderful quality of life as she aged.  To all her friends at Park Place in Kamloops where she lived for several years, we will continue to swing by and watch her tree grow.  Kudos to the wonderful staff at Berwick on the Park.  Mom enjoyed her years there.  Thanks also to Dr Thomasse and Daphne for administering to mom’s medical needs over many years.   A celebration of Betty’s life to be announced at a later date.

Gloria comes from a family of seven sisters and one brother.
She was predeceased by her husband Michael Clark and daughter Susan Droder-Clark. She leaves behind her three sons David, Richard and Kenneth. No service as she has requested.
