Rita Elizabeth Chauhan 1933 — 2020

Rita Elizabeth Chauhan

Our beloved Rita Elizabeth Maria Ambikadevi Chauhan (nee Moodliar) passed into the arms of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on May 11, 2020.

Rita was born in Mumbai, India where she spent her formative years. After attending school and becoming a teacher, she and her husband, along with their children, immigrated to Kamloops, BC Canada, where she started teaching in 1965. Rita worked at John Tod, A.E. Perry, Summit, and retired from Westmount Elementary School. Rita enjoyed her retirement years as a volunteer in the community. She helped out at Kamloops Christian School, ushered at Sagebrush Theatre and taught Sunday school in her church.

She was passionate about everything she put her hand to and always exceeded what was expected of her in her career, her family and with her friends. She lived a productive and faith-filled life, and is now rejoicing in heaven with her loved ones who have gone before.

Rita is predeceased by her father and mother, Dr. and Mrs. Madhao and Elisabeth Moodliar; her brother, Heinz Wilhem Jamsheed Moodliar; her husband, Inderjeet (Nick) Wickram Chauhan; and son-in-law, Eddie Kendrick.

A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Rita is survived by her 3 children: Indira Rempel, Arjun Chauhan and Sarina Chauhan; 8 grandchildren: Sara (Glen) Farrow, Joshua (Anisha) Rempel, Leah (Brady) Rempel, Reuben Chauhan, John (Stephanie) Chauhan, Kyla (Ben) Steinley, Tane Kendrick and Aiyana Kendrick; and 4 great-grandchildren: Rachel and Daniel Farrow, Ethan Chauhan and Maksimus Rempel.

She also leaves behind numerous friends and family members all over the globe who will miss her tremendously.

Rita’s beautiful smile, encouragement, love, and support will be dearly cherished. We will continue her legacy and live the life she modeled for us. Until we meet again.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, and/or The Breast Cancer Society of Canada.

A celebration of life will be held; the date is yet to be determined.

Rita was a loved the Lord and served Him well.
She was a good friend and I loved studying God’s Word with her. She was a teacher, but also a learner who often offered insights into Scripture and sometimes asked questions. She was loved and will be missed.

Rita, a deep lover of Jesus and people. Always took the time to say hello and ask after you and your family. She volunteered at my school and my church. I was always blessed to share a smile with her or a brief conversation. She was loved and will be missed- it is now drinking tea with Jesus.
My deepest condolences to the family.

Aunty Rita was not related to us but was a close member of our family. My mother Persis worked with her and lived in the same facility until just recently.
Rita will be remembered as a kind soul who loved life to the fullest and did her best to raise her children who have now prospered in Canada. Even though she became ill in her senior years she never complained She was always gracious and dignified. We all will miss her kind soul. The Massey’s

Indera, my heart hurts for you. I remember when we met as new roommates 5 years ago. We talked about your family and mine and how much we had in common. We’ve sure had grief over the years and I’m praying for you through this time. Your mom was a beautiful gift to you and your memories will be cherished for ever. May God give you mercy and encouragement in the future.

Rita Chauhan was my friend Indira’s mom. I enjoyed her cooking as a teen-ager. She was also a great Teacher role model. Indira and I both became teachers. I returned to Kamloops after living in the US for 30 years. I reconnected with Rita in the KTRTA (local retired teachers group). She had been an active member for many years, giving back to the community. I also had many visits with Rita over the years. I will miss her.
