JAMES (JIM) TAKASHI MOTOKADO 1936 — 2022

JAMES (JIM) TAKASHI MOTOKADO

It is with great sadness that the Motokado family announces the peaceful passing of James (Jim) Takashi Motokado on April 11th/2022, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born on December 7/1936 in Duncan, BC to Kiichijiro and Kiku Motokado. Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Satoe, sons Jim jr (Sheena) Motokado and Greg Motokado, as well as grandkids Morgan (Rae), Haley and Jennaya. Jim was the 6th born child of 10 children, and is survived by his sisters Mary, Ruth, Joyce, and Suzie and is predeceased by his parents, as well as his brothers Dick, Joe, Sam, Bob and George.

Jim lived a very full life. At the age of 6, Jim and his family, along with many other Japanese Canadians were evacuated from the BC coast to internment camps in Tashme, BC. Following the release of the Japanese Canadians, Jim went on to work in the sugarbeet farms in Alberta, then later into the grocery industry in British Columbia. He eventually retired from Safeway, after many years of service. Jim was many things, a volunteer of 15 years with the Dallas Volunteer Fire Department, the President of the Roadrunner Car Club, and a baseball player for the North Kamloops Mohawks, whom were later inducted into the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame. Jim was a dedicated athlete, bowling 300 point games, being known as a “Pool Shark”, and golfing over 150 games in one season at the Sun rivers Golf Course.

Jim had many athletic and personal accomplishments in his lifetime, and took the same pride in his children and grandchildren’s successes. Jim was always on the sidelines being their biggest supporter. In his later years, he became a story teller, where he would share hilarious memories from the past that the family was hearing for the first time. We were constantly learning more about him and his life until the very end. The endless memories, achievements, wisdom and humour is all part of his legacy that will be remembered and carried on through his family and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Thomasse, Dr. Kambo and the Kamloops Home and Community Care.

In lieu of flowers or Koden, please consider a donation to the
Kamloops Japanese Cultural Centre or to another charity of your choice,
in memory of Jim.

CHARLES FREDERICK BOORSE 1925 — 2022

CHARLES FREDERICK BOORSE

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Charlie on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at the Hamlets in Kamloops with his son Harvey and granddaughter Renee by his side.

Charlie was born on May 11, 1925 on the homestead of his parents, Daniel and Maude Boorse, at Lottie Lake, Alberta.  He was predeceased by his wives Barbara (1977), Hazel (1991) and Audrey (2021); by his siblings Henry, Bill, Frank, Mabel, Mary, Kay, Hilda, twin sister Lillian; son Keith, son-in-law Marty; and granddaughter Alison.

Charlie grew up on the family farm where he developed his love for gardening, his skill in many trades (he loved working with his hands building, fixing or tending to the land) and his love for horses. In 1948 he married Barbara Lane in Medicine Hat and had 3 boys: Gary (Joyce), Stan (Louise) and Harvey (Pam) . They also lived in St. Paul before settling in Kamloops in 1964.  He worked many years for BCBC at the Tranquille Sanitorium.  In 1979 he married Hazel and his family grew with the addition of 6 bonus children: Lance (Marlene), Laurel (Marty), Keith (Robin), Kim (Manda), Wayne, and Wanda (Byron).  The two loved playing cards and hosting family meals.  He spent his later years with Audrey Smith. Charlie was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren who always made him smile.

For many years he loved camping, summers at Lottie, road trips, and gardening. In his later years he loved taking his scooter out, driving the golf cart, being driven, reminiscing about his beloved horses, a good game of cribbage or crokinole and his weekly visits with Harvey and family.

He was a proud, lifetime member of the Moose Lodge #1552.

Over his 96 years, he never lost the quick wit, charm, and humour he was best known for.

At Charlie’s request, there will be no formal service.  You’re welcome to join a “cheers” to Charlie between 12-1:00pm on Saturday, April 23rd at the Moose Lodge in Kamloops.

Rest in peace Chuck, hope you get your “quarters worth of ten dollar bills”.
